The much-awaited Amitabh-Sunjay Dutt-Suneil Shetty starrer 'Kaante' is certainly making up for lost time. After an n-number of postponements, Sanjay Gupta's film is all set to release on the 20th of December, and the audience apparently just can't wait for D-day.
In fact, even before the advance booking opens in Jaipur tomorrow, there have been reports of fans already queuing up before counters a day in advance. What's more, there's even news of virtual riots in the North and Hyderabad where bookings opened today. Rumoured to be a remake of the Hollywood hit 'Reservoir Dogs' the film has its six protagonists - Amitabh, Sunjay, Suneil, Lucky Ali, Mahesh Manjrekar and Kumar Gaurav - carrying out a bank robbery.
Trade Analysts have been predicting a phenomenal opening for the film, which has generated much curiosity among film-goers ever since the film's promos were aired on television quite some time ago. The film's music too has consistently topped the charts. Pritish Nandy, whose media company PNC is presenting the film, confirmed the reports saying,Yes, I've heard about people queuing up a day in advance in Jaipur. The advance booking there opens tomorrow, but there's a mile long queue already. It's unbelievable. There are reports of similar incidents in Hyderabad too.
Mumbai too is quite excited about the film's release. However, there were reports that the Sainiks had threatened to disrupt the screening of the film. With Pritish himself being a Sena MLA, however, there could be some damage control on that front. No, I don't expect any trouble from the Sainiks, assured Pritish when we put forward the question. With a phenomenal number of prints of the film being released, a great initial could ensure good returns.
Further, if the film sustains its run, profits could be mind-boggling. We've released about a thousand prints all over the world, explains Pritish, but declined to draw a rough estimate of how much the film would rake in. No idea, frankly. You know, I'd not in the business of prognostication. I'm in the business of making movies. You can say that again. PNC is certainly making a name in the movie-making business. With its earlier film 'Bollywood Calling' doing good business and the music of their second film 'Sur' turning out to be quite a money spinner, looks like the company is all set to add yet another feather in its cap!
