Yes true, but these rights at the moment are only for USA (and maybe Canada) and not worldwide ;)

After endless delays, reported censor problems, and the surfacing of taped conversations allegedly pointing to the underworld links of its star Sanjay Dutt, this was bound to happen. The Delhi-UP distributor of 'Kaante' has dropped the film. Distributor Sanjay Mehta's decision is significant inasmuch as the movie has heaviest cast (Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Mahesh Manjrekar, Lucky Ali and Kumar Gaurav) and the fact that 'Kaante' has sustained the hype despite the long delay.

Industry sources say that the distributor wanted the producers to take the delay into consideration and reduce the price at which they were selling the film. When they refused to oblige, he reportedly backed out late last week.

'Kaante' has cost of Rs 40 crore, and has been sold for Rs 3 crore per territory. The film has been bought in the Delhi-UP territory by Uday Kaushish in a fresh deal recently. Kaushish had distributed 'Lagaan' last year. In the case of 'Kaante', the hype centered solely on the film - its cast, music, look, everything," says Kaushish. Though he hasn't seen the film yet, he claims that the prints have arrived.

Most distributors in the country are likely to be watching the film on Dec 20th, which was originally slated for on April this year. Of late, the producer had fixed Dec 6th, for the release, a hot day for Muslims to entertain themselves on Eid, their festival following a month of fasting.

The real reason for Kaante's delay is that Sanjay Gupta is waiting for his Reservoir Dogs Anniversary Edition DVD to arrive from Amazon...so he can reshoot scenes in Kaante having a DVD player and TV on the set. Apparently, the earlier release of this DVD didn't have good enough picture quality for Gupta to properly conceive the scenes.

Does anyone know of any plans of showing Kaante in Toronto Cinesphere I-MAX??

Saw it's promotional clips. For Toronto and surrounding areas, this Film deserves to be seen in Toronto Cinesphere I-MAX only.

The much-awaited Amitabh-Sunjay Dutt-Suneil Shetty starrer 'Kaante' is certainly making up for lost time. After an n-number of postponements, Sanjay Gupta's film is all set to release on the 20th of December, and the audience apparently just can't wait for D-day.

In fact, even before the advance booking opens in Jaipur tomorrow, there have been reports of fans already queuing up before counters a day in advance. What's more, there's even news of virtual riots in the North and Hyderabad where bookings opened today. Rumoured to be a remake of the Hollywood hit 'Reservoir Dogs' the film has its six protagonists - Amitabh, Sunjay, Suneil, Lucky Ali, Mahesh Manjrekar and Kumar Gaurav - carrying out a bank robbery.

Trade Analysts have been predicting a phenomenal opening for the film, which has generated much curiosity among film-goers ever since the film's promos were aired on television quite some time ago. The film's music too has consistently topped the charts. Pritish Nandy, whose media company PNC is presenting the film, confirmed the reports saying,Yes, I've heard about people queuing up a day in advance in Jaipur. The advance booking there opens tomorrow, but there's a mile long queue already. It's unbelievable. There are reports of similar incidents in Hyderabad too.

Mumbai too is quite excited about the film's release. However, there were reports that the Sainiks had threatened to disrupt the screening of the film. With Pritish himself being a Sena MLA, however, there could be some damage control on that front. No, I don't expect any trouble from the Sainiks, assured Pritish when we put forward the question. With a phenomenal number of prints of the film being released, a great initial could ensure good returns.

Further, if the film sustains its run, profits could be mind-boggling. We've released about a thousand prints all over the world, explains Pritish, but declined to draw a rough estimate of how much the film would rake in. No idea, frankly. You know, I'd not in the business of prognostication. I'm in the business of making movies. You can say that again. PNC is certainly making a name in the movie-making business. With its earlier film 'Bollywood Calling' doing good business and the music of their second film 'Sur' turning out to be quite a money spinner, looks like the company is all set to add yet another feather in its cap!

The Sur DVD from Media Partners was pretty much the same quality as all the others (Eros, Spark, VS). The only way to be happy about Indian DVDs now is if they are picked up by a Hollywood company, or if the usual suspects sort themselves out (which isn't gonna happen anytime soon).
