It's not everyday we get to see Girish Karnad in a film. Just the sight of him brings flashback memories of the wonderful films he's been apart of.

Ek Tha Tiger will sustain on content: Kabir Khan
9 August 2012

Filmmaker Kabir Khan says Salman Khan's presence in Ek Tha Tiger will bring in the initial footfalls, but the film's content and direction will sustain it thereafter. "I feel the film has stamina to run for a very long time. I hope the film goes way beyond the opening which is dependent on Salman. After that it is me and the film that I have made. I feel it has the strength to go a long way," Kabir told IANS.

"Ek Tha Tiger", releasing Aug 15, is his third directorial venture after Kabul Express and New York.

The movie, in which Salman plays a spy, also features his former lady love Katrina Kaif, making it one of the much-awaited films of the year.

The first look of the film was also widely appreciated.

The buzz has led several multiplexes to cash in on its popularity by reportedly hiking ticket prices 10-15 percent.

But there's little that the director can do.

"That is not something that I can dictate to the multiplexes. They have said it is a standard practice they follow.

When they feel a film is much-anticipated and is running during a holiday period or a festive period, they tend to mark up the price," Kabir said.

"Apparently, some time back (ticket) prices had been brought down, so the 15 percent mark up is just bringing it back to what it was three to four months back.

So I don't think it is pumped up as much as it was done for some films a couple of years back."

'Ek Tha Tiger' Obliterates All Opening Records
15 August 2012

Ek Tha Tiger opened this morning across India and there are no words to describe the opening. It is simply tearing to shreds all opening records at every centre in India.

In the last few years there has been record breaking films like Three Idiots, Dabangg, Bodyguard and Agneepath but with all these films there have always been centres or circuits that are not record breaking but this is not the case with Ek Tha Tiger, every centre and every circuit is on a record breaking spree.

Its just not new records being set but the margins they are being set by, its impossible to put a number on its opening day business this early but it is sure to smash the opening day record figure by a distance.

Caught the 12:30 PM show.

Start of Salman-Katrina angle is a bit slow paced. Well, they had to build a plot. It's slow for that portion. Well, may be they could have spiced it up with 2-3 item songs. :)

The film is short, just 3633 m (132.5 min) and out of that, beginning few minutes are used building/ showing Salman's character. And then that slow portion building Salman-Katrina angle. The real film starts after that and that's not boring at all. There are plenty of twists and turns.

Audio was definitely surround throughout the film. Production values were good too.

If film succeeds, there sure is scope for a sequel.

'Ek Tha Tiger' Set Be Down Again On Friday
17 August 2012

Ek Tha Tiger started like a hurricane and had a big fall on day two which was expected due to the huge collections on day one but it seems the downward trend is continuing on Friday.

The film should have consolidated on Friday and have similar collections in the 14-15 crore nett range but it seems a fall is on the cards as collections coming in at places are 20% lower than Thursday so a Friday fall is certain even if other places hold up better.

It could be the Ramadan period that is taking a toll on collections or it could be that the film does not have public appreciation that the last few Salman Khan starrers have had.

The key days will be Sunday and Monday when Ramadan is over and these will tell whether the film emerges a solid hit or a huge blockbuster.

'Ek Tha Tiger' Has Very Good Jump On Saturday
19 August 2012

Ek Tha Tiger had a very good jump on Saturday as all circuits grew very well, some around 10% and others were nearly 50% up.

The Saturday business should come in around the 15.5-16 crore nett range which takes the total in four days to a huge 73 crore nett.

Mumbai, Delhi/Up, East Punjab and Mysore all saw big jumps in business and it is likely that the circuits which jumped less will show huge jumps on Sunday.

The extended five day weekend of the film should come in around 93 crore nett or even higher.

I Agree, liked it too. Normally i avoid everything with Salman and Katrina in it so this was a pleasant surprise for me

Great parts: Salman was good as an middleage indian James Bond and Kaif, even though she always felt irritating to me before, was surprisingly good also.
Maybe she's an actress now finally and not just a hot cookie, because hot she is. Definitely.
But the best thing about the film, i felt, was the action scenes.

To be honest, normally Bollywood action is a far bit below standard comp. with Hwood and other film industries as Hong Kong. Maybe a tradition thing or
lack of knowledge. The explosions in modern Bollywood action always mostly have had a slightly cheap "10 years behind" CGI look and the fighting's been let down
by deeply rooted masala style punches with people flying many meters after impact.
But in Ek Tha Tiger the crew wisely concentrates mostly on a couple of "real" chase scenes in some great locations, a 2000 year old arabic town (Mardin), Dublin
and Havana. The rooftop chase in Mardin looked beautiful and i liked the tram trip in Dublin too.
Only at the end there was a somewhat masala tinted poorly used bluescreen scene (Salman on a bike chasing a plane, but still a great overall modern action film.
Maybe Bollywood now want the action scenes to look as great as the other stuff (already great camera visuals, nice actors and astounding dance numbers)?
The dance numbers in Ek Tha Tiger were great too
