I didn't see any blurring during high motion scenes so I suspect that the fast motion is handled adequately. The bit rate went as high as 9.0 but went as low as 5.0 so it probably howevers around 7 MB/sec. Of course it doesn't compare to a top rate R1 Hollywood DVD, but it is probably one of the best Bollywood transfers.

I noticed bit rate as low as 3 but mostly above 5.

I found the picture somewhat out of focus, not as sharp as DEI. May be it is due to DVNR not applied, or may be my eyes are tuned to DEI prints.

i didn't think the print was out of focus. Of course it's not as sharp (detailed) as From Hell or Training Day, but I would say that the detail (sharpness) is way beyond Eros and Video Sound transfers. I would even put it on par with The Others transfer.

Hi Faddy,
mine was not a reply, just my impression of the print. I couldn't pinpoint, but I felt the picture was somewhat less sharp than good DEI DVDs. I did play some DEI DVDs to concude this. Of course, I am looking forward to hear your or Ali's views on the picyure quality.

I haven't seen MK yet, but Indian DVD are usually oversharpened. Maybe what you are seeing with MK is less edge enhancement, which would give the impression of a softer picture.

At 3Mbps to 9Mbps, the bit rate is significantly higher than Lagaan. Anyway, I don't agree that English dubs are the way to go. Dubs are almost always comical - especially for such wide cultural differences like India and US.

Rather dissapointing DVD from Columbia. The DVD fails in both the video and audio departments. Although the DVD maybe better than some of the Eros stuff and most of the Video Sound DVDs, it is definately inferior to some DEI DVDs, what a shame considerign the size of Columbia and also their track record with English DVDs. The most dissapointing aspect is the audio, there is just no life in the sound. I remember watching the film twice in DTS and have been waiting for almost 2 & 1/2 yrs for this title to show up on DVD so I could enjoy the dynamic soundtrack I had heard in the theaters. But guess what, the DVD turns out to be a dud. Shame on you Columbia.
I don't know if Columbia releasing Indian DVDs is such a great idea after all. I mean not only do we have to wait for EONS to get the film on DVD but then the quality is also not upto the mark.

There is always a complaint...Sanjay, not to offend you or anybody else but isn't the dvd already up to standards because it is better then Video Sound and Eros? I always read that everyone wants a better DVD..meaning not Eros or Video Sound..so now we get it (Columbia Tristar) and there is still complaining...

Shame on Columbia? I guess Video Sound or Eros might as well do the DVD because there will always be complaining
