BR was a CLASS ACT OF SOCIAL DRAMAS in himself! RC is dying art, with hoopla!with films like Baghban, Babul, BhootNath, for how long he can churn the same social themes over and over by just changing faces and adding floss! :?

Very likely. But, imdb too credits B R Chopra as director Aaj Ki Awaaz.
I wonder who is credited, as director, in the film start credits ??
'
'Aaj Ki Awaaz' & 'Kal Ki Awaaz' were both directed by Ravi Chopra, while B.R. Chopra was the producer for both. IMDB is incorrect in crediting B.R. Chopra as co-director for 'Kal Ki Awaaz'.

Nambiar had also acted in a film Velaikari written by the reformist writer and DMK founder C N Annadurai and directed by A S A Sami.

A deeply religious person Nambiar was an ardent devotee of Lord Ayyappa of the famous Sabarimala shrine and visited it for more than 65 years which earned him the title Maha Gurusamy .

Recently AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa (film Izzat opposite Dharminder) had personally visited the veteran and sought his blessings on the occasion of her 60th birthday.

H. Sridhar, a popular Sound Engineer who has been involved in over a thousand songs passed away this morning at around 8 am due to a massive heart attack. The Sound Engineer had been part of A. R. Rahman's team right from the onset. He was 50.

Having been closely associated with director's Mani Ratnam, K. Balachander, Bharathiraaja, Shankar, Kamal Haasan, P. C. Sreeram, Priyadarshan and Ramgopal Varma, H. Sridhar was a towering icon when it came to mixing music.

H. Sridhar was the recipient of the prestigious President's Gold Medal (National Award for best Audiography) four times for the films Mahanadhi, Dil Se, Lagaan and Kannathil Muthamilttal.

Sridhar was so talented and was sought after by the likes of George Harrision (a member of the famous Beatles), Pandit Ravi Shankar, Zakir Hussain and John McLaughlin to mix music for their albums.

This true talent will surely be missed by the music fraternity.

Indiaglitz condoles the passing away of H. Sridhar. May his soul rest in peace.

Dont know if this is published, both Nagesh and Nambiar passed away in the past 1 month.

Nambiar ruled the tamil industry as a leading villian for more than 3 decades after which he started getting into more of character role. A devotee of lord Ayyappa, he introduce sabari mala to many bollywood actors including bigB.

Nambiar has the record of acting in 12 roles in 1 tamil movie in the 60s (forgot the movie name). Introduced as a hero and eventually turned into Villian.

Nagesh ruled the tamil industry as a leading comedian for more than 3 decards after which he also started getting into fatherly role. Kamal and Nagesh has mutual respect for each of them and is seen in all Kamal home productions and his movies in general. His last movie was Dasavatharam which also happens to be a Kamal movie. He at once was the busiest actor and including MGR used to wait in the spot since Nagesh usually do not give more than few hours for any movie.

Both Nagesh and Nambiar is seen in all MGR and Shivaji movies, that pretty much means almost every movie. Interestingly most of Nambiar movie had Nagesh as comedian and vice versa. Both were very close to both Karunanidhi (many of their movies have Karunanidhi dialogues) and Jayalalitha (she acted with them as well in lot of movies).

They both were great actors in general to watch and steal the stage when they are on, even if it is Shivaji or MGR on the scene with them. Nagesh is also a good dancer and has done lead role as well in few K Balachandar directions which are still gem and class act that none in the current generation can even dream about.

Bgee, right above my computer I have a poster of Aayirathil Oruvan, which features both these great actors. Nagesh was a highly versatile actor who could make you laugh and cry in the same movie.

Nambiar passing away Nov 18, 2008 (some 3 months back) was posted a few posts above.

I also remember discussing Nambiar some 10-15 months back, in another thread, where we tried to figure out which Indian film personality has been active in films, the longest and it was Nambiar.

Yes, completely agree. He also introduced an unique "nagesh" style dance as well. Interestingly he also performed villian character in few films, but the most popular one is Aboorva Sagotharargal (Appu in Hindi?), quite opposite to Nambiar who has also done some lead/romantic characters as well.

Nagesh's son (Anand Babu) also was introduced as a major dancer, but he could never take off in any big way, because his timing wasnt right. he was introduced when we had Kamal (dance), Mohan (kamal replica - typical college boy stories) and few others. If he would have been introduced 10 year later, he would have been the "Prabu Deva". Anand Babu also had his unique style, but his bad timings, his movie life and personal life didnt go well (he was involved in a fire accident and damaged both his legs severly, he couldnt even walk for years, forget about dancing). Not many people knew this. This was revealed in public last week when he attended a dance/reality show and they forced him to dance. he danced (pretty well) and showed what happened to him at the end. It was shocking to see his leg in that condition, even after 10 years. Hope his life goes well and his father's soul protect him as well.

Verma Malik sure was a famous name for lyrics. There must be many films for which he wrote lyrics.
imdb lists just around 18 films.
indiafm has many more but I thought there must be even more.

Verma Malik won Filmfare Awards (Best Lyrics) in 1971 and 1973 for Pehchaan (1970) and Beimaan (1972), both Manoj Kumar films.

Another similar name from the 60s/ 70s is music director Sardar Malik. Just like Verma Malik Sardar Malik too has only a handful entries at imdb, although I'm sure I heard Sardar Malik name for many more films. He too died Jan 2006 and perhaps no one noticed. I'm sure we didn't enter this name in this thread.

One of the films listed for Sardar Malik is "Mera Ghar Mere Bachche" that I remember the song: Ae Mere Pyaro, Zamin Ke Taro, Jaana Tumhein Hai Kahan".

Another one is that famous film Saranga.
(Wasn't it Saranga that is all lyrics instead of dialogs ??)
