Let me know what you guys think...

Where is the same sample as on the original DVD?
I don't like the processed sample much. Haloes from sharpening and ringing visible. Typical sharpened video look.

Farooq yaar can you post same clip, here from untouched dvd 9?

Yaar - I deleted my files from my hard-drive. Will have to re-rip them...will have to wait for now.

At the present moment, I'm working on Veer Zaara - will do a complete DVD9 Remaster of all 3 Discs...that's it.

Why do you bother? People can have the same effect by playing with the sharpness in their TV or video processor using the original DVD.

I think FB chases this passion as a hobby... but yes, FB does tend to crapapize (did I coin a word?) otherwise fairly good transfers in his zeal, and which definitely leaves many of us somewhat puzzled and irritated, me included ;-)

Too mch of a good thing is also bad, as they say...

I agree, but if you can see, he has doubled the bitrate  and also fixes framing, and bad sounds like orig out of sync oso 8)

doubling the bitrate on a fresh transfer from the source material -- the film itself -- now that might be a good idea (like superbit dvds... right?).
Bt how helpful is doubling the bitrate of an already existing transfer. What's not there can't be improved, can it? Or am I missing something?

Why dont you dload his sample of remaster and compare with same clip from ur dvd on your desktop, grab yourself a couple SS, compare framing, colors etc and bit rate too?

Some times in my life with BAD BOLLYWOOD DVDS, I have preferred DL, pseudo prog over SL DVD 5, because of better video, when you play back, on HUGE/BIG screen.

I think, under forty inches, might not make difference but for BBWDVDS it will I guess?

If the original bitrate is low, then doubling, tripling or even quadrupling it will make no actual difference. No real detail can be added back if it is already gone. All that can be done, as FB does, is give the illusion of a better transfer by blurring the image to wipe away the compression artefacts and then adding artificial sharpening. Not something I'd consider worthwhile.

Fixing bad colour rendition is a more productive and do-able venture, as is de-interlacing and correcting botched framing.

@ all

Yeah, it's my hobby - I enjoy it...just wish I could do so on real negatives...

I unfortunately have to work with DVD sources...what else can I do...at least in MY opinion, what I come out with is sometimes better than the original DVD9...so yeah, I work with framing issues & colour corrections...and I think I'm good with that. The bad part of the sharpening sometimes is that it creates halos/ringing...well, that can't be helped...cuz I'm trying to dig OUT the details sometimes...

Well que sera sera...who really cares about the bitrate doubling...it's NOT that important...I'm happy just knowing that I did fix something that I wasn't happy with PERSONALLY...I do things according to what I like...not others.

As Stephen has said...I agree with him 100%. It's NOT worthwhile re: compression artifacts & artificial sharpening. :) The doubling of bitrate doesn't make a difference at all...it's an illusion that is passable to the ordinary user.

I can only do SO much from a DVD9...NOW, if I started from negs to DVD9...that's a different story - I think I am pretty sure that the output there would be a fabulous DVD9 release...that's all I can say from MY perspective...

Two companies releasing the same film on DVD in the same region and in the same time period? Is that even possible? You know, legally and with regard to DVD rights etc.?

If what the article says is true, then I highly wonder why Aamir did not mention this on his blog. Maybe someone can post a question on his blog, asking about the accuracy of this article?

anwar i think you misinterpreted the article.
TZP dvd is released by t-series in india. excel home videos only offered expertise and supervision/oversight... excel have not released it ;-)
Quote:
Although the (TZP) dvds are being brought out by t-series, Aamir has asked Excel to oversee the production process because (Excel) did a fantastic job of the DVDs of Lagaan.
