Farooqbhai, have you touched up your shots in any way?
I don't agree with you at all.

Name some Indian dvds that have a better transfer... I'd like to take shots from my home PC and post soon.

DVD very badly done,Under Par Menus & transfer is bad, details are washed out

wat was Aamir doing while the DVD was being made ? smoking his Cigar ? :(

another classic movie but dvd gone down the drain :?

It took Aamir so long for this, it really shocks me

i agree :( :(

Disappointed & Disgusted

indian DVD market has gone to Dogs

Gone to dogs? Am I missing something here? When was the Indian DVD market any good? DEI made some decent DVDs, but these weren't really on par with Hollywood discs. Bar the odd good DVD here or there, most of them are a pile of shite.

As for this DVD in particular, this one being released by T-Series should have been enough of a warning.

Check the shots carefully -- there's some distortion in them (background) that's not evident when playing back.

Further, a friend and I share these thoughts:

Agreed on the Menu Creatives - could have been better, but that’s just one opinion, as Menus use theatrical publicity material and very true to it (many of us feel a DVD also becomes a good archive of the original publicity creatives, which this one does maintain).

With regards to the Director’s Commentary page opening post Play Movie option, this was purposely introduced as other than 3% of the total DVD buying consumer population in India does not know this function. Neither does it know that a DVD can carry multiple language tracks on the same disc…

IT's A GOOD MOVE and will educate so many of us :-)

With regards to Sound on TZP DVD, it is well balanced and constant from beginning to end i.e. you won’t have to lower the volume when songs play nor up the volume for dialogues. Also, the DVD uses two levels of copy protection system which makes it difficult to grab and post screenshots without deterioration or losing either chroma or its hue.

The Menu navigation (especially on the Bonus disc) has a lot of detailing gone in, do check them out carefully… most of us won't discover everything in one go as it would take a few viewings at least to discover all of ‘em. Also, no navigation locks, no superimposed logos, no scrolling ads average bitrate is above 7 with a 2 pass VBR encoding and 448 KBPs on Sound. How many other Indian film DVDs come close?

Finally, the T-Series replication is definitely an area of concern and also the DVD is Region 5 locked and it’s not an all region disc as mentioned on the packaging.

the packaging -- a collector's delight!!!
Biig pack -- ideal as a gift for anyone and reasonably priced. Beautiful foldout with several collectibles and amazing artwork -- and the two paintings from the movie as lobbycards.

Wow!!!

(Urbanlegend posted a comment just now, but which quickly disappeared... Folks, play the dvd yourself, I'd strongly suggest. Thx. )

I remember. You are the guy that likes it sharp and added nasty sharpening to the Shivaji still.
This clip is 1Mbit/s and no direct rip from the DVD. So it's not usable anyway for critical examination.

i've often reminded farooqbhai "jaldi kaa kaam shaitaan kaa hota hae." You jumped the gun farooqbhai -- I am disappointed by your undue haste :-(

Really! Well you learn something new every day.

I heard about this man who gets angry and turns green. And gets bigger. All over. Apart from the jeans, they stick his knob region like superglu.

And we're supposed to applaud a DVD company for not putting scrolling ads on a DVD? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this DVD is crap (until I've seen it anyway), but I find it hard to say a DVD is good due to no logo, ads and high bit rate.

fair enough... see it and post your thoughts :-)
at least aamir broke the t-series mould in getting past these irritants -- this at least can be applauded for now...

@ND - you MIGHT be right...i only had that 45second clip to base my opinion on...please don't be too disappointed in me :( ab to tu ne mujhe rulaa diya...

@mhafner...no, i hate sharp prints actually...i like details...there is a difference. i still need to examine the rest of the dvd9 first...to make a more accurate judgment of the whole DVD9 - but i do love the audio...
