Just heard that the film has been banned in Punjab and Haryana because a song in it offends Dalits. This ban may follow through in other parts of India. Does anyone know what was said in the song that was so offensive?

must watch for all madhuri fan, and all cine going audience to watch a good, no frill film, with no shobdha bazi! It is one of better film recently from yrf stables!

**During past 10 years this was second film I watched that started with whistles, clapping, seettiis!! to welcome! and first one was devdas! seetti bajayoos were young kids, guys mostly still in love with madhuri!! Title song some how transformed me back, to DTPH where she left us as dancing diva in a musical.

Film has both DD/DTS what i watched was DTS with no disc I hate yrf/naz cinema authorities), if it had proper sound I would give it 4 thumbs up!

You will feel proud/happy taking entire family and yet will have fun!

My kids, both gave it 2 thumbs up, as they found it witty and funny, despite being a musical!
It is story of ordinary people with no stereotypical philmi characters!
This is Madhuri's successful journey forward in a different dimension through DTPH, PUKAR, DEVDAS!

Dirty old man wont be disappointed lol Yes it is better than both of those! But you will miss 6 packs, butts, and gora flesh show!

btw! I still remember that song from sunjay dutt film, with ya mustafa! was banned in middle east, and director changed it to ya dilruba!It worked!

Aaja Nachle, Madhuri’s much hyped comeback film had gotten itself embroiled into a ‘lyrical controversy’ just hours after its release in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The state residents were outraged stating that the filmmakers should either take the objectionable lyrics off the film, or else they will take the film off the theatres. The lines, which they found objectionable featuring in the title track of the film goes as ‘Bazaar Mein Machi Hai Maar hai, Bole Mochi Bhi Khud Ko Sunar hai’. These reportedly had offended some of the Dalit organizations. Mayawati, the Chief Minister of UP had even shot off a letter to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh in this regard. The impact of the ban was so much that Punjab had decided to ban the movie today.

In order to avoid any further bans and troubles, Yash Raj Films acted on it immediately and deleted the two objectionable songs. The film’s director Anil Mehta said that they had made the film in good faith and something, which would not hurt any section of the society. He also apologized saying that if the film has hurt the sentiments of anyone, they are ready to delete the said lines.

Mr. Yash Chopra Chairman Yash Raj Films said "It was not our intention to hurt the feelings of any individual or community of our great nation. If we have inadvertently hurt the sentiments of anybody I apologise for the same and have taken immediate remedial action by deleting the line from the prints of Aaja Nachle from all over the country. This line has been deleted in all the theatres today. Yash Raj Films makes family oriented films and propagates Indian culture through them and would never do anything that is detrimental to the sentiments of our people."

As they say, all’s well that ends well, so what if the end contains two lines lesser than the original!

Arsh-ji is trying very hard to plug this flick. I think I'll go see it once Toronto's weather improves.

BUT, too his dismay, it is highly unlikely this flick will succeed in India.
1) When was the last time a woman-oriented film did well at box office? Yeah, it was when Madhuri was the reigning queen (aka, mid 90s) and that was 10 years ago.
2) No matter how good she looks or acts, the majority of the South Asian male psyche is focused on her age (42) and marital status (married, with two kids). Does not make for as appealing a lusting target in comparison to a Pandukone (21) or Priyanka Chopra (24), now does it?

Think of the bright side though Arsh-bhai. You can buy the DVD dirt cheap when Yashraj releases it.

I agree with you 250% ali bhaii! but that should not take away from family type viewers who wants to go with Family, and be comfortable!

I like Madhuri and indeed liked the film too!She is a HIT here again!

It flops or works, immaterial to me! DTS DVD would be swell though!Flops! even better on brighter side! QUICKER DVDlol!(Bravo)!

Madhuri indeed is NO BIPASHA or MALAIKA to pull audience! But any time I see for a change sleaze free flick from bollywood that is pleasant is highly welcoming to me! I have stopped watching most Hindi films, esp in theaters, for various reasons.

Come Back to Bollywood

Denver’s an odd place for a Bollywood goddess, but that’s where Madhuri Dixit, India’s biggest female star of the 1990s, has been leading a Clark Kent-type life, married and raising children. Ms. Dixit has been gone from the screen for five years, long enough for a new crop of stars to emerge and for “Aaja Nachle,” her modest new film, to be a comeback vehicle.

For Ms. Dixit, 40, really to come back, however, Hindi cinema will have to figure out what kind of heroine a middle-aged woman can be. “Aaja,” directed by Anil Mehta, tries but doesn’t quite know what to do with Ms. Dixit, a wonderful dancer, who plays Dia, a choreographer living in New York. She returns to her hometown in India and tries to save a theater that developers want to replace with a mall by putting on a show.


The questions in Dia’s life are interesting (and echo those in Ms. Dixit’s) — Where does she fit in Indian society? What kind of artist will she be? — but Jaideep Sahni’s screenplay doesn’t fully address or dramatize them. Worse, the film denies Dia, who is divorced with a daughter, a love life. All her passion goes into the show she’s staging and into playing cheerleader to a budding romance between its leads.


Of course the filmmakers can’t erase Ms. Dixit’s considerable sex appeal. To do that they would have to keep her from dancing, and this is Bollywood, so dance she does. In doing so, Ms. Dixit reminds us that whatever “it” is, she’s still got it. Now stories will have to be found that can show it off.

Bottom line is! If you had been a Madhuri fan! You out not to miss oit that whatever was thrown on her how GRACEFULLY she comcquered it!

I haven't seen it yet, but someone told me it was a little inspired by "Honey" with Jessica Alba. For anyone whos' seen both is this true? In Honey, Jessica Alba play a dance teacher to local kids who gets a big break and ends up becoming a famous choreographer in music videos. She's later fired and loses out on the big money. Later when she returns to her old neighborhood, she finds her dance school is closed down, so she organises a big dance show to raise money to re-open the school.

Isn't Aaja Nachle similar in that it's about a choreographer, returning to her hometown and trying to save her theatre by putting on a big show? Maybe that's the only similarity, I don't know.

lol, it could become inspirational from Erin Brokovich too, minus, dance theater!

At Silvercity Ottawa, it was Surround sound at places. Some scenes had audio coming out from rear channels only. Like, when Madhuri goes back to her home and another scene where a Fly is disturbing their sleep.

Mochi Sunaar line was still in the film.

What's wrong with Mochi Sunaar. If it's objectionable, then all Sunaars are going to be outlawed in UP, next ?? If they want to please Mayawati, what about Mochi - Lohaar instead of Mochi - Sunaar line ?? Or, what about "Bole Maya Bhi Khud Ko Pradhan (mantri) Hai".

What's wrong being a Cobbler, Jeweller, Blacksmith, Machinist or a Technician ??

When I watched besides YRF films being very low in directional, Film /Songs lacked, BASS/DYNAMICS of even a STEREO soundtrack as heard on orig cd. Rana if you can listen to your CD, and verify if Dynamics on AAja Nachle song were simillar to even 2 channel?

It seemed very flat to me like the way I watched BNB and hated that film from core of my heart due to bad sound!

I was extremely disappointed one more time even watching in main stream theater but what can you do, it is whatever distributor provides!

It was only YRF's 5 Crore Bet on Madhuri!

But some how I was to see Madhuri on big screen, deja vu me back, into watching Pukar, and Devdas!and forgot about bad sound!

If Madhuri would not be in the film, I would never step into theater otherwise to waste my money on half hearted experience!

It seems most of the films, us zulmis have enjoyed are FLOPS recently!
