Do you remember any specific points where you had a hard time hearing the dialogs? I'll check those points on my system.

i would say towards the end , but otherwise mostly too, I felt like using nigh mode on my receiver dude!

But overall, I think, background music was over exuberant and sound track was not mixed well!

Guru was not ACTION FILM, needing that kinda over exuberant background!

Rehman's Lagaan's back ground was laid back, but very very effective!
Btw did you notice video defect during a song!? I can grab a couple shots , I'll try?

The disc looks to be identical to the Adlabs release except the 'K' logo is not present on this version. This is still definitely one bekaar DVD. The picture is awfully soft, even for a PAL to NTSC conversion and colours look overly blue as usual. In addition, the audio has been pitch-corrected leaving it sounding garbled. No song subtitles here either, by the way.

I think they should've kept the 'K' and instead of Kaleidoscope, say that it stands for 'Krap'.

After the horrible DVD of Gangster (the last ADLABS junk that I bought) seems like Guru is just as bad.

But in this case I would opt for the 'K' logo version as putting up with trash sound quality as well as trash picture is adding insult to injury!

I wonder why no decent DVDs exist of Hindi Mani Ratnam movies - Dil Se and Yuva are both really bad DVDs. It's nuts :(

I haven't checked out the Adlabs DVD, but I would think the audio track on that disc is the same as on the Sony DVD.

Yes - it's bad - cropped picture - excessive DNR that causes a lot of distortion in the picture. This is not how film should look on DVD ...

Stephen mentioned another version. German PAL DVD, that's proper Film to mPAL (and hence default progressive) and has great audio.

There is a very good DVD of Guru available from German label Rapid Eye Movies which is proper PAL and has the correct 5.1 audio included. No garbled sound either. Definitely the best version to get.

I watched the Sony DVD and it's pretty bad. No proper pulldown, mostly soft. And the audio seemed to clipp a couple of times (very loud sound transfer). I want the HD from the DI. :(

I ordered the Guru and Khakee German DVDs from amazon.de. Khakee looks better than the pathetic Eros version (thank God!), it's german 5.1 but only 2.0 for hindi :(

Guru looks good too and it has 5.1 for both the hindi and german tracks. So many German editions of Bollywood DVDs! I didn't realize they were so popular in Germany.
