Not including TV mini-series and such, what film has the longest running time in Indian cinema history?

A 5 hr Mahabharata adaptation perhaps or something else? Any ideas?

Asoka is a very long movie (the director cut anyway), it was serialised into a a few tv programmes it was that long. Still looking to find this on dvd if anyone knows of it? The cinema release and normal dvd release was a lot shorter.

Thanks, guys. :P

LOC is out from Eros in a 2-disc set, so I imagine that's the best way to go there.

Do you have any preferences or warnings on DVDs of these for picture quality, and complete-ness of prints?

Since two of them are fairly recent, I'm hoping these are 16x9 anamorphic discs...

I think it was Mera Naam Joker, then Sholay, then Raju Chacha (for a short while), then Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (that might actually have been before Raju Chacha...), then (now) L.o.C. — Kargil. The first two are great, classics; Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is good, for the kind of film it is; the others just suck.

Was Raju Chacha trimmed down for the DVD release? That has a running time of only 185 minutes.

Sholay directors cut is only 3hrs 25mins. How does that come 2nd as the longest film?
LOC is longer at 4hrs 7mins which is still available. The Mera Naam Joker version available now is under 4hrs.

mera naam joker Many different cuts of the film are known to exist. The IMDb cites 224 minutes, while according to the Chicago Reader, the original running time was 5 hours[citation needed]. Many prints run just over 3 hours. The DVD release from YashRaj films runs 3 hours, 44 minutes.

Stephen, I'm not sure about Raju Chacha; I'm only going on what I think I once read in an article. Also — not that I know you're doing this — we need to be careful not to look at the running-time printed on DVD cases; if we could rely on them, I think Aks would be just about two hours.

Brownboy05, I meant, Sholay was the longest film "after" Mera Naam Joker, as in, it took over the position, not that it was shorter than the former movie. As far as I know, Sholay was longer than Mera Naam Joker Of course, I could be wrong...

Bigd, I'm not sure how long Mera Naam Joker was "intended" to be. Also, I'm not sure if the Shemaroo release's running-time is identical to the Yash-Raj one's. What I do feel confident saying is, Mera Naam Joker could not have been five hours in length. Yeah, maybe "at some point," but never in a form meant to be shown to the public. Raj Kapoor wouldn't have been brazen or foolhardy enough to make a film so unconventionally lengthy — I just don't see it.

1. Mera Naam Joker (two intervals at the time of release)
2. Sangam (two intervals at the time of release)
3. LOC

Sorry, I don't have runtime of each movie, but this is based on reading various articles in film magazines & Internet.

Just on a side-note, man, L.o.C. — Kargil sucked... a lot.
