Salaam-E-Ishq has released finally on DVD, and is available for download from for watching for a 48hr period from Bondemand.tv for $2.99.

Anyone watched movies from Bondemand.tv by Eros? I might give it a shot with Salaam-E-Ishq.

** You can only get the DVD from Eros currently seems Eros wants to rack up sales from its own store before allowing Indiaweekly, and others to sell it to the masses.. **

DVD dosen't look too bad from the DVD-9 xvid rip

But why did EROS cut this? The film has a runtime of 201 minutes. The theatrical version was 216 minutes with Mera Dil cut. What the hell.

DVD: 3 Hours 21 Minutes
Theatrical (Cut): 3 Hours 36 Minutes
Original Theatrical: ~3 Hours 45 Minutes

Anybody have DVD-9 shots?

Yep seems like the DVD is cut - from the BBFC;

Film (cinema) 23/01/2007 Eros International 216m 30s 12A
Video (DVD) 01/03/2007 Eros International 200m 30s 12

Note the cinema certificate got a 12a and DVD is 12.

Part of the time difference will be because of PAL speed-up, but there is still definitely eight minutes worth of cuts. This might be down to the filmmakers rather than Eros. I remember Swades and Kyon Ki having portions cut for their DVD releases after complaints of them being too long.

The only scene I recall from the theatrical version not on the DVD is the scene in which Anil Kapoor is dancing with the younger girl in the club and her friends. The scene is there, but its been shortened considerably.

Thanks!
This embarrassing dance scene would’nt be a great loss. Anil looks like Elvis at his final stage.

If the remaining deleted minutes are alike, the DVD becomes of interest for me again. :)

Except with this one there is no PAL speedup, not the R1 version available from NehaFlix. It's fieldblended alright, but it's not blended 25->29.97fps, but 23.976->29.97fps. A friend has it and was trying to remove the blends without much luck. He sent me a sample to have a look, and that's when I discovered it's really 23.976->29.97. It's rare, but, coincidently, I've seen 3 Indian DVDs like that in the past week.

Although I'm not positive about this, not having a full understanding of what goes on between a reel of film and the DVD, it seems that a real NTSC transfer was available at some stage, but rather than encoding for progressive 23.976 with pulldown applied to output 29.97fps (aka soft telecine), or even encoding already telecined 29.97fps (aka hard telecine), some idiot got the bright idea of fieldblending it to 29.97fps. It also uses CBR encoding at 5000kbps. It looks like crap.

In case anyone's interested, here's a 23.976fps unblended XviD of it I made from the sample he sent me (5.8MB). I can provide the Vob, if anyone else wants to try their luck:
