Hey Zulmis,
Been a long time since I posted a topic.
Nearly a week ago i was watching Amitabh's 'Suhaag' and the print was pretty darn good. As an Amitabh fan I was looking for the dvd of this movie but after watching the one by WEG decided not to waste money.
So can any tell me how the prints with such a good quality are released by these channels while the dvd's taken are of the worst quality. It makes sense if the original print is worn out but some of the movies I saw were in good shape even 'Naya Daur' was crystal clear without any hissing then why the so called reputed DVD companies like yashraj and shemaroo are taking shitty prints even then  .

Good question. I often wonder too. When DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE was broadcasted on Dutch television twice, the picture quality was far superiour to the crap DVD I own by Yash Raj Films.

I assume it's because the TV companies are using video masters that were made back when the film prints were in better condition, while the DVD distributors are using the film prints themselves without doing the required restoration.

Most of the Indian TV companies/channels (except Doordarshan) came into existance during/after 1990/91.
But, the video quality of most the movies (released from 1940s to 1990) on these channels is way better than the video quality of existing dvds.

Few weeks back, I watched a movie, Afsana (1951) on Zee TV and the video quality was superior compare to its dvd.

Is it a different process/technology followed by TV company compare to DVD authoring company in order to create video masters?
