Apologies if these have been mentioned before - couldn't go through the whole 5 pages to check!

One more that I recall is 'Maryada' - Mala Sinha played a double role.

Also - not sure if this counts but ...

**SPOILER ALERT** in Mera Saaya and Woh Kaun Thi ... ... ...

... ... ... Sadhana has played two characters. We never saw them both on screen at the same time but they were two distinct characters.

I'm not sure I follow your reasoning Sanjay but will leave it alone!

I'll give it another shot at trying to explain.

SPOILER ALERT

In 'Jhuk Gaya Aasman', Rajendra Kumar plays the role of a tourist guide named Sanjay. He is killed in an accident and later his spirit enters the body of T.K. who has been murdered. The character of T.K. with Sanjay's spirit is also played by Rajendra Kumar. Thus Rajendra Kumar plays two distinct roles (characters) in the film and thus it qualifies as a doble role. In the case of split personalities the actor is playing the same character (role) even when the character might behave differently due to their split personality. Also roles in which a character played by the actor takes on multiple identities or dieguises also do not qualify as a double role, simply because the person being played by the actor remains the same. In other words there is only one legal entity, basically the government would only issue one passport to such a person. Whereas in 'Jhuk Gaya Aasman' both T.K. and Sanjay would be eleigible to get passports. Although this seems like a silly example but i think it works quite effectively in conveying what I am trying to say. Or atleast I hope so.

Have you seen Shatranj? How would you classify it.

I presume you mean the 1969 Shatranj starring Rajendra Kumar. I have not seen it and therefore I am unable to classify it. But based on a synopsis of the film that I read, it would not qualify since Rajendra Kumar plays the character of Jai who just assumes a fake identity of Shee Rang. Therefore Rajendra Kumar does not actually play two distinct roles (characters).

You don't have to go thru the entire 5 pages actually, all you have to do is go thru the 5th post on page 1 of this thread, where I have compiled the data from all five pages.

Maryada (Mala Sinha) - 1971
Woh Kaun Thi (Sadhna) - 1964
Mera Saaya (Sadhna) - 1966
All the above have already been included in the list.

I'll buy this argument, it does sound plausible! Yeah you right on Shatranj role not being a double. I just threw that shot in for the heck of it and a had suspicion it will throw people off!

JEEO SHAAN SE Dharmendra Tripple role!

Not sure about:

Thanks I was not only able to confirm the movie exists but also that Dharmendra did indeed have a 'triple role' in it. The strange thing is there is absolutely no trace of this film on 'imdb.com'.

Lousy DVD but count 'em. Confusion in the spelling of the title. On cover it is spelt JEEO and on the title card JIYO.
