Here again it's a fine line on what we consider a double role! Let's examine two instances SPOILER FOR SOME PEOPLE In Raat Aur Din we have a single role with a split personality, although each personality answers to different names and different activities. Can performances of these two different activities assuming the different names be considered as two different roles? Jhuk Gaya Aasman also poses an interesting case!. Here we have a single role, same person who re-incarnated in the same single role. A double role? Coming to that shot I thought I was clear it's NOT from Jhuk Gaya Aasman. Interestingly, as I will reveal later it's questionable whether this is also a double role!

Aasman (1984) with Tina Munim & Divya Rana.

I guess I was wrong about 'Jhuk Gaya Aasman' being a remake of 'Heaven Can Wait (Warren Beaty) - 1978', simply because the Warren Beaty film was made well after 'Jhuk Gaya Aasman - 1968'. My guess would be that it was inspired by or copied from the 1941 film "Here comes Mr. Jordan"which apparently was also the inspiration for 'Heaven Can Wait (Warren Beaty) - 1978'.

The 'ghost' you refer to was a character played by Rajendra Kumar, who dies and then takes over another characters dead body, also played by Rajendra Kumar. Thus in my opinion it qualifies as a double role, since Rajendra Kumar essayed the role of two distinct characters.

I have added 'Anhonee (Nargis) - 1952' to the list.
As for 'Hum Dono (Dev Anand) - 1961', it is already there in the list.

I have added 'Azaad (Dilip Kumar) - 1955' to the list, although it is still uncorfirmed.

'Madhumati (Vyjantimala) - 1958' is already listed.

'Ek Sapera Ek Lootera (Feroze Khan) - 1965' is already listed.

'Raja Aur Runk (Master Mahesh Kothare) - 1968' is already listed. Sanjeev Kumar did not have a double role in the film.

'Sanjeev Kumar in Nishaan' I am leaving out of the list, until it is confirmed.

It is apparent from your post above and from some other people's posts that they are not reading this thread or the list carefully. It would be appreciated if one could check with the list first before posting further suggestions. Otherwise it becomes quite a task to go back and reconfirm etc. etc. Thanks.

'Nargis's role in Raat Aur Din' does not qualify as a double role. Split personalities do not qualify as a double role since the actor is playing a single character. On the other hand Rajendra Kumar in 'Jhuk Gaya Aasmaan' plays two distinct characters and therefore it qualifies as a double role.

Personally I don't think it is that complicated to figure out which is a 'double role' and which is not. THe simple rule that applies is whether the actor is playing a single character or multiple characters. Even of the multiple characters are not present in the film simultaneously, such as in 'Jhuk Gaya Aasman', it still qualifies as a double (mutiple) role.

I'm not sure I follow your reasoning Sanjay but will leave it alone! Have you seen Shatranj? How would you classify it. Rana Sa'ab you get the prize! Zeros dvd. brownboy thanks for the info!
