Yes, it's original Jhansi Ki Rani, widely released in US in those days. Dialogs don't look dubbed but shot separately for English version.

Perhaps, this was the first or the only Hindi film, properly prepared for English release, and distributed widely by a famous main stream Hollywod company.

BTW, English version is just 97 min long and has no songs, except the title song during beginning credits.

DVD is like any other Hollywood DVD of 'B' or 'C' grade film from 50s. Still, it's proper Progressive transfer from film with clean audio. Definitely beats Bollywood interlaced DVDs. Listed for $ 6, I'm sure it's meant to be in bulk bins going for around $ 5 or under.

Great find! Will order it!

Just out of interest - the details are showing that this is sub-titled and 148 minutes long. Does that mean this is the Hindi version?

A lot of films from the 1940's were shot in Hindi / Urdu and English. On Channel 4 last year 'The Court Dancer / Raj Nartaki' was shown. This film was made in 1941. Ch 4 screened the English version - the songs were replaced by dance sequences.

That's strange.

Same ASIN # and yet Amazon.ca states it to be 97 min long and in English. And, that's what I got in Canada.

If the version selling at Amazon.com really is 148 min and in Hindi, it'll be great. BTW, imdb does state English release run time as 97 min, Hindi one at around 148 min and ---- for another language version.

Interesting find.

Didn't S.S. Vasan's Chandralekha have an English version?

Exactly as it happened in the 19th century. Or, at least how it's told in the text books.

Thank you Rana Saheb! It's good to know they haven't changed history for " dramatization purpose"

Well, you can feel the authenticity of the film by the looks of Super Hero of that time Sohrab Modi. Sohrab Modi is Raj Guru, a no nonsense patriot, in the film.

Nurpur DVD has released the Hindi version of Jhansi Ki Rani.

Even though the CC and titles state that the film is in colour / technicolor - the DVD is presented in glorious ... ... ... BLACK and WHITE!!!

Worth checking as Nupur Hindi version most likely should be aprox 148 min. Most likely, the differennce well be included songs in the Hindi version ??
