Fox Searchlight is distributing it in the US, so presumably they will release the US DVD.

Here are XviD Shots from what appears to be a Screener DVD as the message "FOR SCREENING PURPOSES ONLY" pops up many times in between

i got this from mongreal website, they are realesing 2 versions on the same day one will just be the movie, while the other is a 2disc and has DTS sound!
the 2 disc clearly says double disc and also has john on the cover while the single does not looks like i will be picking this up with harry potter on the same day i called future shop they said 2 disc is $25 cdn, while single is $20, but if you pick up the day it comes out it will be $20 instead, but they said that they think this will be the price and final price will be known the day before

DISC 1 INCLUDES:
-Feature Film (Theatrically Released Hindi Version)
-Original 2.35:1 presentation, enhanced for widescreen TV’s ( so will it be like bollywood hollywood or will this be anamorphic?)
-Optional English Subtitles
-DTS Hindi Audio
-5.1 Hindi Audio
-5.1 French Dubbed Audio
-Director’s Commentary
-Scene Index
-Song Index

DISC 2 INCLUDES (Exclusive to Special Edition):
-Feature Film (Alternate Version – Filmed in English and Never Before Released!)
-Behind the Scenes Featurette
-Original EPK: The Making of Water
-Free Bonus “Scanning the Movies” 2 Part TV Special
-Deleted Scenes
-Theatrical Trailer
-Stills Gallery

Till yesterday, Futureshop stores (and website as well) had Water listed at $ 19.99 (to be released on Mar 7), but said Single Disc. (No listing of Double Disc.)

Today, it has only Double Disc listing at $ 25.99. Same picture though.

Amazon.ca has it listed as Double disc at $ 27.99 from list price of $ 38.

I think, there is only one edition that's being released and that's double disc that has DD 5.1, DTS 5.1, Alternate version, deleted scenes extras etc etc.

Let's see in a couple of hrs, what price is it avail at. I think, it'll be $ 19.99 at Futureshop, at least on the opening day. Wednesday prices are always a couple of dollars more in the opening week at Futureshop.

--------------------

BTW, HP & Goblet is releasing same time but is no competion to each other as they are totally different category films.

But no doubt!! HP will sell like HOT CAKES, and Water just lukewarm!! It is just MASS APPEAL!
Film is VISUALLY STUNNING though!

I'm sure, once Future shop knows of Best Buy price, they will reduce it too ?? (BTW, Future Shop site shows that they are owned by Best Buy anyway ??)

Presently, Futureshop deal is buy $ 200 including delux ed HP and get $ 20 off.

1 disc is $ 19.99, 2 disc is $ 25.99.

Both versions have same main disc I think. Both have DTS as well as DD audio. 2nd disc has full alternate version, not released in theatres, plus extras.

2 disc version that I got has 5 audio tracks, DD 5.1 Hindi, DTS 5.1 @ full 1536 kbps, DD 5.1 French, Dolby surround Hindi and Deepa Commentry 2Ch in English. No English dub.

Beautifull PQ and exc audio. Progressive, Anamorphic, 2.35:1.

Detail is amazing. What you don't see in extreme dark room, you even see brick/ stone pattern on the wall. And that's despite lower thasn expected bit rate that's under 5 kbps. Total bit space used is only 6.5 GB.

------------------

Disc 2: Alternate version is in English spoken language (partly Hindi too;). 2 Ch though.

Disc 2 is 7.45 GB. i.e. almost full.
Perhaps, this was the limiting factor that led to low video bit rate for the film that's in disc 1 as well as in disc 2??.
May be not ??
DVD alternate version states that the film was shot separately for English and for Hindi version (perhaps for lip synch??). Then, English version and Hindi version must be from two different film bins and different authoring??

Deepa Mehta's daughter was at U of T (Scarborough Campus) doing a book reading of the Making of Water and along with a screening of the film earlier today.
