My god was I disappointed by this movie after watching it a few months after everyone else. After spending hours digesting this thread I have to agree with most of what dvdisoil has said about Parineeta.

I think the ultimate comfort that I have with Parineeta is that it’s not directed by VVC – I can only wait on what he delivers on Eklavya (aka Yagna).

‘Parineeta’ is a compelling, stylishly nostalgic and bittersweet romance story with very powerful acting by Saif, Vydia, and Sanjay Dutt. It only loses its force near the end where the dialogue and script, such as the wall scenario, suffers from unconvincing over blown character dramatics familiar to many Bollywood films. But this does not detract overtly from the spirited pace of the movie, the well-drawn characters and fluid script as a whole.

Newcomer Vidya Balan particularly impressed me; her efficient and charming smoothness on the screen showed no hint of amateur actions. Every moment of her expressions-from sorrow and happiness to passion and distress- is extremely adept, poised and believable.

Saif excels as a gifted actor; Sanjay (looking as if he hasn’t slept for decades) is natural and loveable.

The cinematography lures you into the 60’s time period with images that are gorgeous without being glossy or stuffy.

‘Parineeta’ is a smart, enjoyable film, not the greatest movie, but still certainly a good one, with a fine cast. While the trend in Bollywood films has sadly gone stale, ‘Parineeta’ is like a refreshing aura after a tempest.

Highly recommended! Must see.
Fantastic songs have repeat value.
