Must see movie. My oscar goes to this movie. If Autograph made you remember your youth and college days, this one will make you remember your families, parents and sacrifices made by them - specially father. There arent that many movie that talk about the importance of father in everybody's life and this filled in a huge gap.

3 hours 20 minutes - non stop, no intermission, wonder. Dont miss this. Dont bother to see this in VHS/VCD. Go to theatre or wait for DVD.

In each movie Cheran attempts something new and here its just another wonder. All current happenings comes in B&W and his past (ofcourse glory) comes in color. Wonderful thought and nice presentation.

I personally missed IR in this movie - he could have made you feel more better - but the subject is already serious and IR BGM would have made th e movie more serious and probably wont be able to enjoy the movie.

This movie will win many awards. I am also glad that people are supporting this movie and doing good business.

dvdu, is this playing in NJ?

Any idea who is releasing the film as Ayngaran don't have DVD rights for it.

This movie has been very well reviewed. I hope the DVD comes out soon.

Yesterday 8 PM was the last show in NJ (the one I went!) and pretty impressed, more than 60 ppl showed up - compared to 3 for Anbe Shivam (me, my mom and my friend!)

Dont know who is releasing hte DVD. Audio was released by Ayngaran, so hopefully they will release the DVD (they released Autograph). If not ayngaran, then its VGP since they seems to have taken a decent portion of copyright in the recent releases!

Yesterday after watching the movie both myself and mom were ready to watch Maaja in VCD (Ayngaran version - not thiruttu VCD!) because we never felt like watched a 3 hour 20 minute movie. If its running anywhere close to where you live, its worth the driving.

is ayngaran planning to go out of business or something....they don't even have a link to their dvd sales thing on their main website....

Saw it last week ( still struggling to find time to watch movies) and liked it very much , of course the movie is filled with stereo types and some clichéd situations perhaps even dangerously over-sentimental , but then the director has selected clichés that exist in all of us ..., we after all are also stereo-types in one sense.

I felt this was a continuation of Autograph ( imo slightly more superior) - my only problem with the movie was the excessive use of voice-over-narration, i just wished Cheran could use images and music ( I beg him to work with IR next !) to carry the scene instead of "explaining" what the characters are going through ! - otherwise like DU says - Time ( just like life) flew past me and never for once did I look at the clock !

Kudos Cheran Kudos ( BTW - my friend got me a 'Thirutu' VCD of TT and i broke it in front of him to emphasis the fact that this has to be seen in theater - give credit where its due, ofcourse my friend was pissed at me for doing that )

Unlike Hindi films, Tamil films do come with DTS CD. AMC theatres are equipped with DTS system and hence can expect excellent audio.

Completely agree. Its much more superior to autograph. I thought I am the only one to miss IR - now I can raise my voice and say IR could've added life to it.

BTW I saw Sivakasi yesterday. The proud that I had about tamil movies after watching Thavamai Thavamirunthu was completely erased by Sivakasi. Its like eating shit.

why did you watch it then...u know what a vijay movie is like...

I saw a clip of one scene when Vijay is lecturing Asin about her dress....blaah....i'm not even gonna watch that film now.

That's a problem with Indian movies in general. Too much tell, not enough show.

Using too much imagery can sometimes bore audiences; it explains why great filmmakers like Bergman, Ray and even Kurosawa are not widely recognised by mainstream audiences.

I learnt my lesson after making my short film, which had less tell and more show. My film was praised by fellow film-school classmates, some film buffs, and my lecturers. However, when it was shown outside to the general public the feedback was completely the opposite.

I guess finding the balance is key to making a good film, only a handful of filmmakers have done this.
