I thought it was quite accurate on the DVD quality, particulary on the thin 5.1 sound

Don't have time to read the review right now, but I also disagree with the general consensus, regarding sound on the Lagaan DVD, here at zulm. I felt the the sound on the DVD doesn't really create a surround field as it fails to use the rear surrounds properly. I recall how enveloping the sound was when I saw the movie in the theatre, and was quite disappointed with the Lagaan DVD in that aspect. Have to say that the front channels and the bass were really good, just the rears that I was dissatisfied with. In comparison, the sound on the Asoka DVD is a lot more enveloping and succeeds in recreating the atmosphere of the theatre.

While the reviewer seems to like the film generally, he says that some will find the melodramatic performances a bit silly. I can't seem to think why? I don't think these people get the general "grammar" of Indian filmmaking. They are used to - and to an extent, even brainwashed by Hollywood to accept their filmmaking sensibilities. I mean hardly anyone ever says that Star Wars is silly. It takes quite a major suspension of logic to accept something like Star Wars after all.
