There's lots of subtitle programs that can covert subtitle files from 23.976 to 25 FPS in a flash - Subtitle Workshop, Subrip etc.

If anyone still fances these, here are English subtitles in SRT format for the Diaphana Devdas DVD:

Link

They've been re-translated (much improved over the awkward Eros subs) and in sync with Diaphana's differently edited cut of the film.

Wow, Stephen, great job with the subtitles.

Did you make yourself a custom DVD?

These new subs look great and synch perfectly with my Pal to NTSC converted video!

What's the point then??
Once gone through PAL to NTSC conversion, it won't be any better than EROS DVD that is film to NTSC (Pseudo-Prog).

The point is that I'm only doing this for myself, and to me the Diaphana version is much better than Eros', even after conversion. I don't claim to have the eyes of a professional, so it satisfies me. I do need subtitles since I don't understnad all the Hindi as yet. This will show you the difference I see, even if it's just a quickie comparison. (I did try to match the same frame.)

The master that this Diaphana version was taken from must have been much better to start with than whatever Eros used. The video quality is reduced a bit after conversion, sure, but I can always watch the original Diaphana version without subtitles from the PC.

You sure made your point Maryah. Your PAL to NTSC converted DVD is much better than EROS Film to NTSC DVD.

Any volunters to bring these 3 screen shots here in this thread??

From the PAL to NTSC converted DVD screen shot, I see no sign of field averaging that most Indian DVDs suffer from.

Stephen, did you do the new translation yourself? If so, great job! If not... please thank whoever did.

Yep, it was me who re-wrote the subs - glad they were of help to you and thanks for the compliments. :)

This is a long topic - so please forgive me if I am asking something that's already been answered.

The Eros DVD has cropped AR of abt 2.21.

What's the AR on Diaphana?

Thx.

The Diaphana DVD is also slightly cropped, but less so at 2.30:1.

Any info on the actual theatrical AR - is that 2.55 or 2.35?

I just got this and i agree ont he video improvement.

but can someone confirm the audio on this sounds off ? I only tested the songs but there's something not right sounding about them compared to the eros version. Is it just due to PAL speedup or something else ?
