I received my copy yesterday and it seems the UK is just getting the Indian version the same as everyone else and not 'Ballad of Mangal Pandey' as advertised, so it looks like the English version isn't going to see the light of day on DVD.

If YRF were only going to release one version, it seems strange they'd choose the Hindi version since the film was aimed at the international market anyway. :?

They could have made that trash shorter and add an English soundtrack atleast like MK!

If it's just the audio track that is different, then the 'Ballad of Mangal Pandey' could've just been a seperate audio track on the DVD that could be selected. When I saw the Ballad of Mangal Pandey in a Cinema, the picture quality was bad and the sound was low. The DVD of the Indian version - Mangal Pandey actually looks better. If they were promoting 'the Ballad' for International audiences there were alot of time-wasting scenes that should've been cut out as well as some songs. The shot of Rani with a pug and a sword, fighting the British in the end, should have been completely deleted! There were people either laughing or kissing their teeth in disgust when they showed that. You can't take Indian films seriously when directors mess up on stuff like that.

A separate audio track wouldn't work unfortunately since the scenes were actually shot twice.

It was presented in English at Cannes! So wait for French Edition, if YRF chors do not interfere!

This shot is not in the version I saw. The international version will be on DVD from Capitol films, as far as I know. German rights are with RTL2. They will release a German DVD with a Hindi track.

Here are comparison screenshots from the Region 4 DVD by Madman Entertainment. The disc is basically identical to the YRF release, but with the important difference being that it has not been converted to NTSC (it's the original PAL master), so this is definitely the one to get.

Hopefully the English version will still eventually get a release too somewhere. :?

The extras are exactly the same as those on the YRF DVD (except, like the film, they're in the original PAL) and the audio is also unchanged - a very good 5.1 track.
