I will probably only be interested in buying classics or collectors editions

Sure, like I did by buying Shemaroo's Collector's Edition MUGHL-E-AZAM and PAAKEEZA, less than a Year ago.

Just today I found out, my Collector's Edition MUGHL-E-AZAM (B/W) has become Collector's Coaster. I will check Collector's Edition Paakeeza now. Wisely, I also bought Collector's Edition Shemaroo Colored Mughl-E-Azam and this won't last more than a few days either. First copy never played past mid point and the replacement disc has already started skipping.

My Real Collector disc perhaps is what I copy myself, as soon as the disc plays once.

I have bought close to zero DVDs lately from any Wood. I wait for the new HD media or watch HD tapes. I never download. I consider it morally bankrupt to do so. I'm all for the authorities to sue websites and their users alike. This culture of theft is disgusting. When I need to see a film on DVD I rent it. I watch films in cinemas. I watch DVDs I bought years ago.

Touche...But caveat emploi....
"Chor ke ghar mein chori nahin..hera pheri kehlati hai"... Make it a point never to download films authored by DEI/BEI and Ayngaran and iDreams... They actually invest in quality and it is a privilege to buy their dvds...The recent entry is UTV (Parineeta but thats another story :D)

However...no such mercy for stuff released by EROS/Videosound/Spark/Yashraj etc.

DVDs by iDream/UTV (at least Parineeta) will validate Ali's statement..Not sure abt others !

Downloading is only ‘morally bankrupt’ as the movie ‘authorities’ aren’t making money from it, but when these capitalists find a way to charge people for the downloads (and it’s inevitable that’s going to happen in the future) then it’s all morally correct again. All they need to do is go to ISP level and get a revenue share from them. Why haven’t they done this yet? – Because the market isn’t big enough for them. They’ll wait for downloader’s to increase to such a level that when they do go to force payment on the ISPs then it’s instant m(b)illions for them. Only a matter of time.

I do agree on the whole culture of this theft business and the authorities should sue the websites (although they’ll be hard pressed to come to any results from trying to sue its already ‘morally’ bankrupt users). Let’s start at the propagators; the film producers, directors and so called script writers who plagiarise scene by scene of movies (that they’ve probably watched on a pirate DVD! ) and then move onto distributors or anyone who sells these DVDs. After all they are all part of the chain of profiting thieves that are dealing with stolen intellectual property. Let these authorities know about Chocolate and all the morally bankrupt retailers selling this DVD. Then and only then move onto the bankrupt small fish like freeloaders and leechers from the torrents sites (you know the ones that don’t profit it from it)

Ali

I totally agree with Sknath, I cannot see myself paying $10-20 for a dvd and find out that the dvd is bothering me all through its life time bcoz of its bad quality. I would not like even a single penny out of my pocket to go to these companies. So what I usually do is to go through the dvd review in Zulm for dvd quality and if the quality is marginally good then buy it otherwise download zindabad.

I was shocked to see that the indian film industry does not care for the film prints and there's not even a single proper print of Sholay/ Pyaasa/ Kaagaz ke phool and such classics. So I started collecting dvds so that I should atleast be holding some of the good works done by some companies. Dvd collection is my passion but that doesn't mean to compromise with quality. NO WAY!!

I have no mercy for the companies who exploit people's money by giving them s*** quality dvd's .

Where the hell do you download Hindi films from? Lol. None of the "P2P programs" have them.
