DVD is out, it is same cropped, like old DEI titles, but no squished video.
Pahfinder claims it to be 16X9 anamorphic liars!!pants on fire!!

Sound is 192KBPS DD 2 channels only. No extras!

Verdict..possibly miss it.

I still haven't seen this film. Is it worth watching/owning?

I think it is one of more BOLLYWOODISH film by RGV when he was sane? , excellent score by Rehman, pathbreaking for Urmila and really good acting by Aamir!
Recommended!

Rangeela is one of the rare instance in indian cinema where "love for the medium of cinema " plays a very important role in the story and charecter relationship(s).

In her essay ( Lalitha Gopalan's -Cinema of Interruptions) she has a very unique take on the film and would recommend hardcore RGV fans to read it ( also included excellent essay on Mani Ratnam's Nayagan)

Here is what she says about Rangeela

Take the conclusions Gopalan draws from the love triangle of Rangeela/Colourful (1995) with which Cinema of Interruptions initiates its proposition:
The film implies that Kamal loses because of his inability to participate in the correct triangulation – he loves only Mili, whereas Mili's first love is the cinema. It is Muna and Mili's love for cinema that dictates their love story, the preferred triangulation in the film (p. 2).

This reading relocates the lines of the love triangle of the film away from Kamal and instead directs them towards cinema itself. Interestingly, rather than the love triangle between Kamal, Mili and Muna, which must be broken for the film to conclude in union, this new triangular formation – between two lovers of the cinema – holds up at the film's resolution.


And yes you got to love the music !, now where can get the DEI version ??

Is it cropped, ? and does it have 5.1? it wont be progressive for sure!

I like contrast , sharpness on this pathfinder dvd, compared to DEI version.

Yep, it's cropped, but it does have 5.1 although it's rather distorted - not a patch on DEI's sound. The video is just pseudo-progressive and sharpness isn't very good, but I think the colour and contrast is vastly superior to both the DEI and Pathfinder transfers.
