Two extremely good looking films from Hong Kong!!
For ones who like Eye candy popping lollypop! Give them a try!

Man that Climax snow blizzard cinematography in HOFG is awesome!

For me I will stick rewatching CTHD!

Mind you I am not a die hard Hong Kong movie fan!

House Of Flying Dagger's just jerked me the wrong way, in keeping with the fact that both Hero and this film leave me in complete "awe" of it's visual mastery. Flying Dagger's was, however, too cought up in a nipple pinching story line that quite frankly pissed me off by the end of it.

I just mentioned for visuals, thats why I 'll never watch them again.
For story line, I will stick to my dependable CTHD even not a visual delight at level of other two!

So, bottom line!

All good looking films are not good and all good films were never lookers either!

Arsh - are you familiar with Zhang Yimou's earlier works ?? ( don’t take it in the wrong way), I somehow suspect that the above comments are from a person who is not familiar with his previous work ( Raise the Red Lantern, Ju-Dou, Road Home ) - putting in context, Hero and esp. HOFD is a very significant step for Yimou ( forward or backward remains to be seen) . Like all great artist , their work cannot be judged in singleton but through the sum total of all of all his/her work against the social-political-economic backdrop .

I cant say I liked HOFD - but in my opinion Zhang Yimou is a very important filmmaker and his work cannot/should not be taken lightly. Think of it like Satyajit Ray or even better Ritwik Ghatak (since he is more political) made Pinjar or to put it in context perhaps Devdas – what impact that would create in indian cinema.

You are right, I am not!! and you seem to be a die hard fan of his and kinda sound posessive lol.

I watched these based on previews that really looked good!! But as occasional viewer I was not much impressed with products!

My comparison was with nothing else but CTHD, that I did love!

I can understand, Torrentino's work, John Wu's work, or Wolfgang pterson's work etc etc!

But some how I do not have comparison to this master's earlier work unfortunately, so can not tell, that these are step forward or backward..but Imho, both of these film did not have a good plot to inspire me!

But I think, if you like some ones work you go back and dig out their older work too

I did not mean to ridicule this master film maker, but my point was that despite being beautifully shot both of these films lacked charisma imho.

No doubt they were never taken to the extent of oscars as CTHD was!

Again I donot mean to say that CTHD maker is a better film maker

I haven't seen Crouchin Tiger..but I have seen House of Flying Daggers, and I think it is fantastic! I know people that have seen both & like HOFD better.

If only we can get these chinese guys to direct a Ramayana or Mahabaratha with the same production values..........dreaming too much? :(

btw arsh, your taste lacks charisma :P 8)

I have seen all 3 and imho, HOFD will be on bottom of my list even showing visual excellence! as my mind does not use, visual excellence, technical values, production values, big budget, production houses, special effects to the max or all of the above to feel that a film is great!!

I am sorry that is weired me. I did see HOFD as it did look good film to watch once only!

Dont take me wrong, but haven't u guys watched the same when you were kid in doordarshan (I mean Ramayan and Mahabharat). It aint funny even for kids.

About visual effects, hmmm, I prefer to watch Tamil movies, specially Rajni and Vijay movies! They can fly and swing lot better than any of these movies!

I still have to wait till some one reveals any wonder that I could not see in that story :?:

Re Gals!! I am fed up to see that beautiful gal to see her in all the movies, she was in CT, then Hero, Then HOFD, then Warriors? and then Rush hour and another Hollywood release/flop last year with Jet Li!!

I think she is the only one they have. They should try getting that Gal from Ghai 's Kisna

I found our own Mailka with Jackie Chan looks really good!
