Super Digital as always but surprisingly it is good. I guess because the menu is not fancy, no extras therefore ample room left for the movie which made it looks better and video was not sacrificed.

Well I was wondering what would have happened if PRASAD digital had authored the DVD instead ! Check out the PATI PATNi aur WOH Thread!

I just bought the DDLJ dvd, and I am going to buy the K3g dvd
I have read the prior comments and have concluded that you guys are real picky about the dvd quality. Indian cinema is the largest, but not the best So expect lower quality items, but thank god for DVD’s ( I mean I remember watching pirated VHS tapes (they were so unbearable). I am assuming most of you are NRI’s. You are lucky if you have a movie theater around you that shows Indian movies. But for us that have nothing and have to wait for the only Indian store in town to get these movies. DVD’s a are a god send.

Although you have a point if you were to just compare DVDs to the pirated zillionth generation copy (done by local store) VHS tapes. But the fact is it is not as simple as that. In the case of DVDs it is not the pirated version that we are talking about or for that matter a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy..... what we are talking about is original legitimate DVDs released by companies that own the original copyrights. Also we are not talking about the $3 - $5 approx price one paid for the VHS crap but rather $20 - $25 average price of a DVD.

The fact is we are nto at all picky, since we don't expect the quality to be on par with the hollywood releases, but the least we expect in return for the price we pay is a DVD that has a picture which is not distorted (squished or otherwise), sound which is atleast in sync with the picture on screen and without loud crackling and popping sounds in different speakers in full 5.1 channels. If expecting this bare minimum of quality is what you call being picky then I guess I should not even complain about DVDs where the film is not even complete and has portions and songs completely missing.

The worst part about all this is that most of these are not financial issues but just a matter of caring about providing a decent product. Believe me it costs not a single penny more to ensure the film is presented in the correct aspect ratio or for that matter without it being squished or otherwise distorted. If one company can release one DVD with proper 5. DD sound then there is no reason for them to not be able to do so with their other DVDs. Believe me it would not cost them a penny more to do so, since the authoring equipment and software is the same.

I hate to say it, but it is people like yourself (which unfortunately is how most Indian DVD customers are) that these companies don't give a damn about providing even half decent quality. Their attitude is very much reflective in that of yours. If the customer does not care, then why should they, after all they are just in it to make a quick buck and as long as there are customers as yourselves they have nothing to worry about.

PS: Please don't take any offense to what I say because I am just being honest.

Neal14.. i wont lie but youre right about us being picky!! but what u gotta understand is that there are about 4 or 5 DVD indian titles out there that really are way ahead of DDLJ and K3G in terms of quality... and if you have seen this quality (even though it aint perfect like the hollywood movies) you will understand why we are so nit picky!! If you wanna see quality buy Lagaan R1 and Asoka R2... both are excellent!! this is the way indian movies shud be.. actually they shud be better!! With a top movie like DDLJ, we should get better than grainy third rate shit!!

oh yeh i aint an NRI im a NRPAKI!! :DD:

personally i would say that DDLJ Was a p*** take was a really abysmal dvd whereas K3G was very watchable....

The only reason Yash raj done a decent quality dvd for K3G was they had no extras or anythin like that to offer so if the pitcure quality wasnt an improvement on the pirate, then purchasing K3G would be a total waste of money

I am sorry that I have created such an outrage about the pickiness of Indian DVD. I understand your frustrations about not having the best quality. But again to play devils advocate, I think Sanjay like you said that does not take any more money to make a better product, but it must take a lot of time to make it better. Simple marketing skills do not apply to these Indian vendors. Like you said they are out to make a quick buck, but they are also out to appease the masses. Most Indians in India don't have DVD players; they don't have VCRs or VCD players either. So this home movie market is based and supported (the majority) by the abroad clientele. Now in this majority we have about 2/3 the population who does not have access to Indian Movie Theaters. So (I am getting to my point now) as you said people like me put demands on producers to put these movies out a week after there release so we can watch them. Now I understand DDLJ should have been a better quality movie due to the fact that they took so long to release it. But for the others they have to come out fast to compete with the pirates. Otherwise they lose tons of money. And let’s face it the abroad clientele makes up for half the profits. So I see your point, and I have presented my point. Not to underestimate the producers, they can make a better product if they wanted to, but will they forsake any profits (NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I do have an idea , and I am not sure if this something they are doing or considering. I think Hollywood is doing this already that is why we see DVD’s for a lot of movies coming out in less than 4 months. The Hollywood producers are making the DVD along side with the actual final production of the film. So if the Indian producers did this maybe it will give them some extra time to make a better product. But on the flip side if they released the DVD to early, they may lose a chunk of business at the box office. For example London (UK) they have a ton of Indian movie theaters, and when I get my Indian DVDs here in the states a lot of them have a tag line that says not for sale in the UK.

So as long as greedy producers are incharge of the production side of DVDs there will always be a questionable product produced. But if the responsibility is shared by the creative side (some one who actually cares about the product besides the fans) you may see a better product.

Till then don’t hold your breath.
:D

COLLECTORS EDITION UPDATE

I did some mailing to the yash raj company asking them if they were releasing a collectors edition, they told me that the only reason they released this single version was becuz the market had too many pirated dvds, so they released this one.
But they also said:

"Note that we will consider, after a few months, based on market factors, whether we will also release a Collectors' Pack with additional material."

Lets Wait And SEEEEEEE :music:

Hé Hafner, je me suis avéré justement observer le DVD de K3G et je suis suprised vous ai donné à ce DVD une estimation si élevée dans votre revue à la page principale. J'étais appaled par Numérique dolby terrible 5,1 transfère, couplé aux faits que ceci n'a pas même une liste de chapitre?

:D

Would like to know your comments on this !

The 5.1 sound was far from terrible, wasn’t brilliant but still was better than anything from Video Sound and previous Yash Films DVDs. I personally couldn’t care less for printed chapters’ listings as long as the DVD is decent. Who actually reads them listings anyway when the chapters can be viewed on the actual DVD :doze:
