so basically...u get a dvd of black with an audio cd and a complimentary black soundtrack..LOL there so stupid...they have to advertise it as a 2 dsic set dont they..when it is just a 1 disc dvd..stupid stupid ppl..

I read somewhere that SLB named the film after his favourite colour ... Black ... so I guess he should have called the film 'Kala' ...

Spoken language in the film is mainly English. Words, used for teaching, are in English and alpha bets too are Roman A-Z.

Titles of movies are usually poetic (at least the good ones) and BLACK is no different (I still maintain its not a masterpiece but still a good movie). Without the director actually explaining what he had in mind, we can only speculate. What Rana gave is one way to look at the "logic" behind the title. My explanation is slightly different - I look at BLACK as a metaphor (remember this is a "emotional" film) – The easiest way to get my point across is to use the dictionary and lookup for the “meaning” of BLACK and COLOR (stolen from dictionary.com)


Black -
The achromatic color value of minimum lightness or maximum darkness; the color of objects that absorb nearly all light of all visible wavelengths; one extreme of the neutral gray series, the opposite being white. Although strictly a response to zero stimulation of the retina, the perception of black appears to depend on contrast with surrounding color stimuli. Complete or almost complete absence of light; darkness.



Color -
That aspect of things that is caused by differing qualities of the light reflected or emitted by them, definable in terms of the observer or of the light, as:
The appearance of objects or light sources described in terms of the individual's perception of them, involving hue, lightness, and saturation for objects and hue, brightness, and saturation for light sources.
The characteristics of light by which the individual is made aware of objects or light sources through the receptors of the eye, described in terms of dominant wavelength, luminance, and purity.


Now think of Rani Mukherji character in this "light" replacing the physic part of the definition above with “emotions” and it “might” dawn on you as to what BLACK might represent for "you" . To me Rani Mukherji was BLACK and hence the Title .

Always good to see what a director intended to-do and still leave his work for personal "interpretation" – a reason why I respect this guy !
