with the expectancy of standard DVD's to fade (like VHS did) with the arrival of Hi Def format media, what in your opinion will be the fate of our Indian market?

Do you expect classic films to be revived onto the better media? Or do you expect the old dvd's copied onto new media (like they did vhs -> dvd)
or do you think we will just have to suffer with whatever we have now?

I think big companies like Eros will make transition to new media just so they can advertise that they are doing so. so i do expect indian films to hit new media soon :roll:

It's a scary thought. But I have hopes that at least some of the newer releases will be available in whatever standard that is to come. Even though they look like poo now, there is a chance they might re-encode them properly with new technology :)

i think the hd dvd players wont catch on right away since they will be really expensive as the dvd players were when they first came out. Also for indian movies i dont think they will make hd dvds for indian movies until a lot of people have them. it will most likely take until the begaining of next year until indian movies will come on the new format.i wouldnt be suprised if the new quality for indian movies would be the standerd english dvd quality when dvd movies first hit the market

I am sure before EROS or YASHRAJ the pirates will be churning out 20-in-1 HD-DVD's !

I think most classics or popular hits will get to HD-DVD mostly upconverted from NTSC/PAL to HD from the Digi-BETA source (telecine source).

I think they will look much better than they look on DVD mainly, because of no compression like needed for DVD and the other reason being most current DVDs were done using lousy MPEG-2 encoders. So, HD-DVD might be well worth on atleast some great titles. Can't wait for it to see the hardware fall in reasonable price range! But what will be a pain will be to release new movies in two versions (DVDs and HD-DVDs)! I am not sure if this will be feasible for regional markets like Telugu and Tamil!

When HD DVDs start coming out, once enough people own a HD Player, which wont be a for a while. Indian companies will start out putting proper HD DVDs. EROS will be first because they are the Microsoft of Indian movies. Yash Raj Films will following with Super Digital doing a few hundred HD DVDs till Prasad Digital upgrades its equipment to HD.

Now with movies that are flops all Indian compaines will start making proper quality 480P DVDs of flop movies while only Hit or average movies get the HD treatment.

* My Two Cents *
