While some of you may not like movie, almost everyone loves it. The boxoffice has already said the Veer-Zaara will no doubt be a hit. Pakistani people are filling the theaters to see this movie since for the first time a Hindi movie isn't bashing Pakistan. (I guess thats a good thing)? <- I saw this thing online about the Pakistani's ->

Is there anyone on this board who is Pakistani to confirm what the paper said? (curious to know if it is true).

I myself haven't had the time to see this 3hr movie. I'll wait it out till Jan 2005 and rent the DVD.

All said and done Yash Raj Films has another hit!!

compared to yash raj/dharma prod ( i see no difference between the 2 movie making companies ) VZ isn't very good as a complete film basically the best bits from days gone of yash raj films have been taken and put together in VZ

Veer-Zaara is the best thing Yash Chopra has directed in the past 25 year's of his career and quite possibly his most important film since Deewaar. Yes, the film has it's chock-full of typical Bollywood romantic signatures: It's a candy-floss-chocolate-tasting-tear-jerking melodrama. But to me, this seemed totally irrelevant as essentially at the end of it all, the film is a passionate tale of optimisstic humanization, a timeless theme normally neglected or underplayed in Bollywood films. Veer-Zaara delicately portray's such an issue without seeming to pass itself as a self-rightous product. In a theater packed of either indecisive or rock-hearted people, I was one of the few who actually physically cheared to Veer Partap Singh's self-introspective poem at the end of the film. It only disappoints me that the songs (besides Tere Liya - which I've grown to really like) seemed like a big blah! with the film's flow. I can't believe I'm actually gonna state this, here goes, wait. f*** it! I'll say it proudly -- VEER-ZAARA IS ONE OF THE YEAR'S BEST AND MOST IMPORTANT BOLLYWOOD FILM.

sorry can't agree with that DARR was a much more superior directed movie YASH CHOPRA has done and he hasn't done better since that !!!

Aditya Chopra directed DDLJ.

My personal favourites among Chopra senior's works would have to DEEWAR. Sorry to be harping again and again about writing, but that was exactly what it was, fantastic writing by Salim-Javed and exemplary visualising and executing by Chopra.

if more people harped about writing, we'd have much better films! keep it up!

Well!! I caught the film on big screen, last weekened!!

Positive:

Only one theatre, playing between Alaska to Los Angeles..LOL
Hiked Ticket Price.
Running Houseful on weekends!

**I would like a MHN kinda release all over!!

Good print.
Very decent DD sound..film was also made in DTS(rana to make note).

Visually good looking film like most YRF films.
SRK was good, towards the end as old man!! Rest was same old SRK, doing nothing more, nothing less he has done before!

Dream Star Cast.

Diwali/Eid release.

Negatives:

Lengthy, with overtly/highly cliched preposterous, implausible , larger than life story line.
mix match mush of visuals, situations from prev YRF films like DDLJ, Silsila etc.
( I would prefer this to be short, precise sensitive, directed by Benegal than Yash Chopra, on line of Zubaida).

Film lacks intensity of a good griping love story..so I prefer DTPH , Silsila even Darr and AAina!

Music OK..but at times seems STALE!! coming from ANarkali..I would prefer Music more Like Zubaida!!

Choreography/...Okish, Nothing Great.

Too many songs!! Too small story stretched to 3 and 1/2 hr. esp pre interval, it does not move an inch in abt 2 hrs!

Acting..Preity in no Madhuri, No Kajol.
Srk..same Good old, SRK, with his Attires, way out of sync from Time frames of story, including his high lights.

Manoj..good but wasted, same for Booman Irani..I would like to see him more like Amrish in Zubaida!

There was no NEED for AB or Hema, they were dragged in to cash on Baghban Hype! AB does well, while Hema disappoints, she looks AWFUL too..I wish I could live with Baghban image, and never have to see her in VZ.Their presence just dragged the film, unnecessarily.

Kiron Kher..Now new MOTHER CHOPRA/JOHARS/SRK CAMP..does well.

Divya Dutta..Awesome, very natural in small role.

Rani Mukherjee..does her role well, with tons of White Make UP!

OVERALL..Average to OK..7/10.

REPEAT VALUE: NONE!

ENTERTAINMENT VALUE..AVERAGE!

STAY AWAY from $25 sp Edition YRF crap!DVD..imho
Rather Watch DTPH or DDLJ, on DVD from ur previous collection.

I too caught it on the weekend with my family and friends. I and 1500 (3 shows @ 500 each) others were foolish enough to pick the day (last day of the 2 announced days) when biggest festivities of the season were going on in the block where the theatre was. Grey Cup was on. Streets closed, Parking prohibited. You pay $ 15 to $ 25 for parking, which otherwise will be free. In return we got to see magnificient Fireworks, from the Grey Cup festivities, during 40 min of line up to get in the theatre. Needless to say show was completely sold out in advance. Last time I saw any theatre showing Indian film more than 60% full was 9-10 yrs ago (Hum Aapke Hain Kaun).

Of course there was big hype. 3-5 min of whistles and claps as soon as SRK appeared on the screen first. Somewhat less when Preity or Rani appeared. Surprise (to many) guest stars too got lots of claps and whistles.

I had read from the reviews, the first half is good and second half is slow. With all the hype and audience reaction the first half seemed good and enjoyable untill I overheard a comment from someone not affected by the Hype. When asked (at interval) how the film was, a 2-3 year old says, "Film Achha Nain hey. Khushi Ghum Achha Hey, Kuchh Kuchh Achha Hey". Well, I sort of agreed, without the hype, first half just OK at the best.

But, Second half was extremely good and intense. Second Half is what makes it a Film. First half alone, I'll call it just a documentary.

BTW, I found the spoken language from different characters inconsistent in what dialet the characters were speaking.

Well, some liked first half, some second half; overall all came out satisfied that they saw a good film. Paisa Vasool and OK for repeat viewing if in good theatre (Yes, it will be at AMC from coming Friday).

When asked if they recd DTS disc. Yes CDs are available for sale. (I wonder if they know what is DTS disc??) Confirmed, they did not receive any such thing as DTS disc.

Same print will be used at AMC, AMCs that don't have Dolby Digital and without the DTS disc we again will get the same back up Dolby-SRD.

Does anyone know if Albion - Woodside, that too dont have DD and have DTS, received DTS discs??

No whistles!! No Hush!! Just pin drop audience!! No Hoo, no Hmm!!

Surprising to me!!

Well, First or Second!! Half, Good or OK!!

Film , in my bottom line, is OK!! for one watch! I dont see any repeat viewing value in the film? for What? I wonder?

I expect seeing it a nose dive once festivities are over and all advances are taken care off!!

It is Just an AVERGAE film from YRF dtable and BTW!! Yash Chopra should quit!imho.

BTW!! I did see trailor of:

Swades..film seems to have very good technically solid look, excellent print.

new girl seems beter than Gracy Singh! But film has a monumental task to take over LAGAAN to succeed!

Hulchul..another southish crap, comination of Doli Saja ke, God father, Khushi, Bulandi..You can smell from miles SOUTHISH REMAKE!!

BEWAFA..Looked interesting, with humable music.Good cast! Good production values!

Nach ..OOH HOO!!

AITBAR..HOT but LACHAR, very adult theme, not for families!

SKPG..Sallu/Shitty..another POOP Southish flick! FLOP
