Mallika Sherawat plays Jackie Chan's love interest

Mallika is one Bollywood babe in top demand. After getting an offer from the Playboy magazine and signing films for Rajkumar Santoshi (to be directed by K. Subhash) and S. Ramanathan (also starring Amitabh Bachchan) the hot beauty has signed a film opposite international action king Jackie Chan. And Mallika is the leading lady of the film playing Chan's love interest. The film tentatively titled Time Breaker will be directed by Stanley Tong who directed superhit action films with Chan like Police Story, Supercop and Rumble in the Bronx.

Incidentally Lara Dutta was first offered the role but couldn't sign due to date problems.

--------------------------------------

Bride & Prejudice may or may not be a Hit, Jackie Chan film is sure to be a Hit. just based on loyal (kids) fan following.

IMHO, Lara Dutta should have done something not to let this opportunity go away.

Well, Lara's loss is Malika's gain.

I'm more looking forward to Chan's forthcoming Cantonese flick New Police Story. The trailers for that look phat and is certainly better then all the poor hollywood films he has been doing...His last one The HighBinders (Medallion) was just mahacrap!!!

Recent Jackie Chan films have been crappy. The Medallion, The Tuxedo, etc - so I expect this one to be no different. But it's a HK films so I might be wrong.

Why Mallika? She's quite ugly, methinks! There's so many better girls to choose from, plus Mallika can't act at all. Anyones gotta be better than Mallika! She's doesn't deserve this.

It would've been better if Lara Dutta took the role.

Whatever happened to Armour of God 3, to be filmed in India with Akshay Kumar?

But in most Jackie Chan's films the female leads are not soft-porn stars...an exception being 'gorgeous' where the female lead did some porn a while before featuring in his film.

The women in JC films are quite tough and sometimes carry out their own stunts, both of which Mallika is incapable of.

I didn't like Medallion, and I don't like most of his American films. Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights were good, though I hate the Rush Hour films. Who Am I? was okay, though I don't think it is really considered an American film. I didn't bother to see The Tuxedo or Around the World in 80 Days. The idea that it isn't Jackie that has the skill, but it is a tuxedo that gives it to him just seems wrong.

Tuxedo is a bad movie. It's a b-grade action film with horrible acting released by a big studio.

I think Mallika might be disappointed cuz Jackie rarely kisses his heroines on-screen and that'll keep her from reaching her normal quota of "17 kisses" lol

But I do think it'd be cool to see a well-known Indian actress in a Jackie film.. his movies (even the crappier ones) are always so fun and I just love to watch him do his stuff. Even if the script sucks, you know you'll have a good time just cuz Jackie's so enjoyable to watch.

I enjoyed Rumble in the Bronx. The Myth looks
interesting. I wish they had chosen a different
Indian actress like Lisa Ray, she is more beautiful.

As for the stunts, maybe they will get a double to
act the stunt roles for Mallika. I read that Mallika
will do a bare nude scene in The Myth. :o

Hey those look pretty cool. Knowing Jackie he'll no doubt incorporate Mallika into some of the fight scenes to make things more interesting to watch and add some physical comedy like always.

What's even more interesting is that IMDB.com lists Hugo Weaving, Agent Smith himself, in the cast. That should be something, fight scenes between him and Jackie!

The title on IMDB says "Timebreaker," tho (it's the same movie, since Mallika's listed in the credits)... Did they change the name to The Myth or vice-versa??

Oh yah, forgot to mention... As for that nude scene, I highly doubt it'll happen cuz Jackie rarely has nudity in his films, and when he does it's usually HIS bare-nekkid butt that's up on the screen lol. Plus I still don't think Mallika would gamble wit her Bollywood future by appearing nude in a movie... I actually think she would be up for it but it's still so looked down upon in India that it would be difficult for her to appear in mainstream movies after that, whether they're A-grade Yash Chopra productions or soft-core titillation like Murder

If there is nudity it will be from the behind. I don't think JC would have topless or frontal in his films. There's not any naked females in his films apart from Operation Condor, that I can remember. In those pics Malaika looks ugly as usual, they should've got someone prettier. If there is nudity maybe she's the only one in the industry who's up for it.

By the way, I remember the super-flop actress Dipti Bhatnagar did a sleazy-bollywood style wet saree love scene in a low-budget US film 'Operation Cobra'. It was a martial arts action film starring someone called Don 'the dragon' Wilson. Even R Madhavan from 'Rehna hai terre Dil mein' was in it.

Bollywood’s saucy belle Mallika Sherawat will not be doing what she is best at in her movie with Jackie Chan.

Ever since Mallika bagged her first international film ‘Time Breaker’ with Jackie Chan, there have been talks that she was chosen for the role because she was willing to shed her clothes for the movie.

There have also been rumors that other known actresses like Lara Dutta and Bipasha Basu were the first preferences but Mallika was eventually chosen because she had no objection to bold scenes.

These ‘windy’ talks and gossip has turned completely senseless after the film’s director Stanley Tong clarified that Mallika does not have any hot scenes in the movie. Stanley goes on to say that there is not even a single kissing scene between Mallika and Chan. But he did make clear that there would be some ‘common and acceptable’ romantic scenes.

About choosing Mallika for the movie, Stanley said that she was chosen not because she was willing to expose, but because she fitted the role of an audacious girl who has the right combination of values of west and east

I couldn’t have done a nude scene even if I had wanted to’

Screen Weekly
Posted online: Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 1450 hours IST

India’s latest sex symbol, Mallika Sherawat, recently returned from Shanghai where she was shooting with Jackie Chan for the Chinese superstar’s forthcoming film The Myth. Excerpts...
You have become quite a myth yourself...
(Smiling) I have to thank the media for that. I’m a simple girl with big dreams. But people find it hard to believe this simple truth. So they weave stories around you—stories that have no basis.

You mean you haven’t contributed to the myth in any way?
Why should I circulate rumours about myself? I don’t have time to play these games. I work my legs off everyday and count myself lucky if I can get eight hours of shut-eye.

There is a story doing the rounds that Chan decided to cast you because you agreed to do a nude scene.
(Giggles) I couldn’t have done a nude scene even if had I wanted to. Jackie Chan films are made for family and children and he wouldn’t allow such content

So what is your role like?
I’m playing an Indian princess with whom Jackie falls in love.

Jackie Chan films are full of stunts. How did you cope with the physical demands of your role?
I have been practicing yoga since childhood so my body was supple enough for the twists and turns I had been subjected to. Jackie has a knack of gauging an actor’s abilities. He doesn’t put you to any unnecessary risks.

You seem to be quite impressed by his working style?
He’s an amazing actor, incredibly athletic and uproariously funny. Sometimes, during high-speed stunts his hands and legs move so fast you can’t see them! I find him a perfect amalgamation of Bruce Lee and Charlie Chaplin. He is a great human being as well. He loves to talk and in between takes used to regale me with stories from his childhood and his days as a struggler. He used to call me his little Indian princess. I was touched when he gifted me his especially autographed biography.

How different is the Chinese style of filmmaking from apna Hindi films?
There are certainly more methodical and better organised than us. They also have vast resources at their disposal which unfortunately we don’t as yet. Their millions help them create virtually anything. For instance, they constructed this huge set, correct to the minutest detail, of an Indian palace and factory in Shanghai. It was so authentic that I had trouble remembering that it was just a set.

Did you enjoy working with the Chinese cast and crew?
Initially, like any newcomer, I was jittery about how I was going to cope in an alien atmosphere. But, once I got to know the people, I found the Chinese to be fun loving, warm-hearted people. They have a great sense of humour and I really had a blast during my fortnight’s stay in Shanghai.

Shanghai is known for its exotic locales. Did you do any sightseeing?
Unfortunately, we were shooting day-in and day-out. Jackie took some time out to take me to a charity Formula One race which was attended by all the top stars of the South-East Asia region. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience interacting with them. He has promised to invite me for the Chinese premiere. (Smiling) I’m going to shop and sightsee then till I drop.

Are there any plans to dub the film in Hindi?
I’m not aware of any such development.

Will The Myth be shot in India too?
There is going to be a schedule in Hampi, Karnataka. Jackie is quite excited about shooting here as it will give him a chance to taste the sights and sounds of India, first hand.

Have you had any feelers from other foreign filmmakers?
I haven’t as yet but I’m counting on The Myth to help me break into the international circuit.

Would you say the time is ripe for Indian film stars to start exploring international markets?
We were never short on talent, what we lacked was proper marketing. India is doing well on other fronts too, so there is a natural curiosity today about all things Indian. I feel this is the right time for Indian actors to find work abroad because now they will be accepted more easily.

Another Indian actor, Sudhanshu Pandey is also a part of The Myth. Did you get to shoot with him?
No, we haven’t done any scenes together as yet.

What other films do you have on hand?
I have Govind Menon’s Kis Kis Ki Kismat, Jhamu Sugandh’s next and a RK Santoshi project besides the The Myth.

You have reportedly cited Dharmendra as your favourite actor...
(Cuts in) He isn’t just my favourite, he is my mother and grandmother’s favourite star too. I got him to talk to my mother and my nani, and it really made their day.
