I personally feel, AYANGRAN to be a THOUGHTFUL, QUALITY ORIENTED, FUTURISTIC COMPANY, but again, LOW BUDGET or HIGH BUDGET, a DVD of KAAKA, with this much grain, and a PROg like bOYS is UNACCEPTABLE to me!! :baaa:

Ayangaran should go back to the old dvd maker company. Whoever making the new titles should not be with ayngaran. I started buying dvds because of the high quality in ayngaran dvds. I mean Y does a normal consumer has to pay for the films crash in BO?? I pay the same price for kaka kaka and alai on dvd. ayangaran is cheating people now. i think three times when i see a very good movie on pyramid versons. I buy a bad movie if its an ayngaran title. Now both are in the same catogery.

Ayangaran shame on u.

Thats a nice answer Sunny. THis is y these movie makers treat people like shit with their crappie dvds. R u gonna pay me my $50 dollers since u put it so easy? :) Since u r close with ayngaran and all, can I return the movie because I didn't like the quality. I bought their dvds because of the qualities only. Y would I wanna pay and extra buck when I can get some pyramid titles?

Well what can we do other than put our frustration in this forum :( :ffs: :baaa:

I agree with you but unfortunately there are only a few like us who keep screaming about this and of course buying the so called original dvds for $$$$$. Majority of the people are happy even with the pirated VHS which they can rent for a buck.

Thnx a lot, sunny, I didnt mean to be overtly critical here on ayangran, but wishful, to get better results in future!

I always thought SOUTH films use better STATE OF ART equipment ,technology than NORTH? then why inferior cameras with FULL OF GRAIN picture, Man it LOOKS like SAND SPRINKLED PROG VIDEO in KAAKA KAAKA! :baaa:

Perhaps Hindi movies aren't using finer grained stock than Tamil movies. There's so little detail in the Hindi DVDs that maybe the grain can't be seen in the video transfer, and even the DEI ones are often heavily DNR'ed. Maybe it is a good thing that we can see some grain in Ayngaran DVDs; it means that they aren't using excessive DNR and possibly reducing overall detail.

What portion of blame goes to cheap film stock??

Recall, cheapest film stock used recently was for an extremely successful film and the DVD is great.
Film shot on 16mm.

Monsoon Wedding.

I had a short look at "Kaka Kaka".
It's supposed to be progressive.
But it does not behave like a progressive Hollywood DVD! If I click through a Hollywood NTSC DVD
I get 24 clicks per second and the
full frames are there without interlacing artifacts. With Kaka I have to click 30 (!) times and some
frames have interlacing artifacts,
some have not, some move from click
to click, some stay the same. This
is not standard progressive! At normal speed it looks quite right,
but I'm not convinced yet this is
genuine progressive stuff. The DVD
looks noisy/grainy and sharpness
is mediocre at best. If this was
made from the ON the result is quite disappointing. Compression problems too. It looks like mediocre video, not film.

mhafner, sunny got pissed off, from my criticism of ayangran, but believe me with apologies to sunny!

i always thought AYANGRAN is a good company and they care about quality..

some how, even with trying to do NTSC telecine, their dvds have a lot of problems, you have seen Kaaka, and still you are complaining abt sharpness, if u have seen? viramundi, boys, then you will understand, what the hell, they are doing!!!

They r 24fps, with simillar artifacts, as u described, and to combat grain..my god, they squeezed the last drop of blood out of dvd, imho.

I found earlier EROS PROG(24fps) dvds, like TAAL, BADSHAH less than satisfying, bad quality, laden with artifacts!
But here..you have to see?

I wish, ayangran, can consult a PROFESSIONAL AUTHORING company to fix their authoring issues and not work with amateurs, or students! who r trying to learn!!

In the mean time, IMHO, they should go back to their older PSEUDO PROG transfers, like ANBE SIVAM etc, or old KK, that was not anamorphic or INDIAN,..they are more EYE PLEASING!
!

Actually Virumandi is by the same ppl who did their eariler titles of Anbe Sivam!!! Grain on negs I have already explained, if you choose not to believe it then no problem, but I do know what I am talking about.

Also why don't you see thier new DVDs of P.Saravanan, Engal Anna and Joot. This was done by a professional company in UK, who also do some work for Tartan. They have been transfer in anamorphic 2.45:1 (except for P.Saravanan which is 2.55:1), in 24fps, and have DTS and Dolby Option. Have a look and give us your comments.

Certainly, I'll sunny, But I hope you got my points!! it is genuine concern, and hopefuly ayangran with their good track record for trying to improve must have changed their authors! I'll check and comment, if u dont mind..

In good old days, i found their dvds really eye pleasing, short of prog, and being cropped( but every one was cropping)

I have a long term, good raport with you, when you had your own website and really enjoyed ur reviews and even my relative overseas appreciated your work. It was certainly an EYE OPENER!
I apologize, if in any ways, i tried to CROSS u!!Your presence on this forum, means a lot to me, esp, as I understand there r still quality oriented SARFIRAS here on zulm..

You r the one who introduced me to zulm, and since we both have been hanging around here! with the same OBJECTIVE, trying to get GOOD QUALITY HINDI DVDS!

Ayangran, is a STRONG COMPANy and have GOOD BASE! while DEI/BEI are not in a position to financially compete, till a mioracle happen and they get another super hit title like KNPH!

I hope, before remastering, HINDUSTANI, KADKOUNDEIN...Ayangran straightend there mastering issues!

BTW..people found a newer anamorphic/DTS dvd that is FIELD AVERAGED of KK? any comments!?

Thnx for replying my post, and Pls excuse me, if i crossed my limits!!
