I was wondering, among Indian DVDs, Dual Layer Siver Media DVDs always rot where as Hollywood DVDs don't even though most of them are on Dual Layer Silver Media??

Any ideas??

The answer to your question is quite simple actually. Most (almost 75%) of all Hollywood films clock in less than 100 minutes or (almost 90%) under 120 minutes, therefore they fit quite easily on a single layered (also known as DV-5) disc. Whereas almost all (over 95%) Indian films clock in over 135 minutes, thus requiring a double layered (aka DV-9) disc to fit in. The problem is that in a single layered disc silver is media is fine but when it comes to a double layered disc, golden media is recommended due to its higher reflectivity. If you check, you will find that almost all Hollywood films (from the studios) that are longer than 110 minutes are presented on a gold media, which is what is recommended in the DVD specifications.

Another reason to explain your question is the basic difference in quality of media used by Hollywood and Indian DVD manufacturers. Yes, all silver media are not equal, in fact there can be and there is a huge difference in quality between the media used by Hollywood and that used to make Indian DVDs. It's all about money, although the infruiating part is that the difference between good and bad media is only a few cents, but you can bet on these greedy Lulla's & Chopra's & Party to try and save each and every penny. Althoguh in my opinion they are not just greedy but also stupid because this is being penny wise pound foolish, since in the end they just promote piracy and lose a lot more money that way compared to what they saved on the DVD media.

I've seen some dual layer silver discs from Hollywood studios, but they don't freeze. Even if the movie is only 90 minutes long, they usually include some extras that necessitate a dual layer disc. The vast majority of Hollywood dual layer discs I've seen are gold.

That is explained by the superior quality of the media used by Hollywood.

Don't forget the biggest culprit of all, Video Sound. Lately they seem to have improved a bit, but there was a time when every single DVD of theirs would last no longer than a few days and at times even the brand new disc would freeze up.

I was talking of Hollywood Dual Layer Silver Media discs and they don't freeze. I have hardly seen any Hollywood film DVD on a Single Layer.
(Made clarifying correction to my orig post)

Only DEI and SKY ---Maybe DEI is sleeping under the SKY--
There is no excuse whatsoever for DEI to be selling DVDs that
freezes The same goes for SKY__
BOMBINO and some WEG also freeze--

I have a couple of eros discs that do not play properly after layer change. Stopped buying them now as they are a waste of money along with those videosound discs.

For a while I thought videosound were using that self destruction media (like Disney were talking about) but now I relaise they are just using shit normal media (perhaps disney could have asked videosound how to make self destructing discs without spending money on r+d).

I don't think Indian DVD manufacturers know what r+d means!
