Jeevan Dhaara (Eros - 1982)
Directed by: T. Rama Rao

DVD shots are attached below: enjoy

I remember reading this movie to be one of the most under-rated films. Reading that gave me reason to spend to get this dvd. So i did; vide is good, sound is ok. However i dont have proper equipments to make any further comments. DVD appears to be in gold meadia, and so it says on cover. The dvd skipped twice on my apex dvd for very minute moment. Dont know what it was rated, but i would definitely rate the over all movie to 6.8/10. Story is very good. But "made-up"ness shows at places. Here are few of my criticism toward the movie if one is interested.

* rekha is strict, modest traditional indian girl. yet displaying her strictness way too many times to make it look redundant. kid reading english out of geography class, blind brother begging, constant arguments with elder brother.. all these are a bit too much. it is enough as is the way the sister, sister-in-law, mother all respected rekha and enforces likewise strictness to the kids on behalf of rekha.

* mother worldwide always had their way, regardless of any situation at home. in this movie, mother is nothing more than a maid, she stays numb when rekha speak.. she is very often speechless making the movie a madeup look.

* rekha coming in on mother giving food to raj isn't also appealing. rekha argued earlier today, realisticly speaking.. she would be tired and would not bother arguing again. more realistic approach for such scene rekha noticing this, and out of anger she would yell from her room or somewhere else saying... "go ahead give your son food.. despite what i say..".

* raj's role isn't explained clearly, this also a negative part of this movie.

* killing roop kumar doesn't make sense much. should've been avoided.

* it's ok to not reveal the habit of roop kumar with his hands.. but showing the kalpana's mother copying his hand habit is complete nonsense, especially when no other girl that roop gone out went shows to have this contagious habit.. and plus ... the kalpana had enough ideas to know roop is after his mother as well.

* kalpana trying to suicide is absurd. the girl who can go change boyfriends, mates overnight, can do abortion just like that, why would a kind of girl be jealous or humiliated enough to suicide to find his boyfriend after his mother.

* what a coincident! amol shows up to save kalpana...... coincidence usually lightens the value of the movie.

* another coincident! rekha is at kalpana's house after the incident..... ooooohhhh.. coincidence....

* raj is fraud from the beginning, the last fraud to rakesh could've been shortened by half.. the details isn't that important what raj makes up.

* amol marrying kalpana... it can only happen in a movie where a "kangaal" gets married... the strange part is that he didn't even say a word about him being broke and how will he will support another body.

* ending does not neccessarily has to be possitive or cheery but definitely should not be completely negative. nuetral or a hope would have been better. for example; i would have the conductor pray in mind for rekha as he calls her didi.. and someone seen on the bus is who has the same mentality as prem which rekha isn't aware of yet. and credits would come by and scene would be scrolling and similiar scene rolls where rekha waits for bus.. and someone like prem comes in.

... i 'm simply expressing my opinions. please dont take offence anyone..

Arre Shuman bhai, Jeevan Dhaara pe poori ramayan hi likh dali! :D
It is one of Rekha's better films from the early 1980s, along with Ghar, Saajan Ki Saheli and Khoobsurat.
