I believe this is one of those films that were colored later. If you looks closely at the below shot at the edge of DK's head (that doesnt sound right :p ):

and his cheeks are too red, the picture looks painted:

i thought i was right. :)

according to imdb.com, this is released in 1952. I wish there was release of the actual black white print as well. I personally like to watch bw films. I must admit the painting done is pretty impressive.

This film was shot in colour. It was one of the first - but not the first Indian movie to be shot in colour.

I concur with Muz.

BTW, it was a common practice till 70s, to have B&W prints available for cheaper screenings, specially 16mm ones. Typical 16 mm film rental in 1970 used to be Rs 350 for color and Rs 70 for B&W print of the same film, for a weekend.

No! It looks natural. Unlike our colorized movies...
Sources say that Aan was the first Technicolor Hindi film.
I'm pretty impressed with the restoration by Eros! It looks as good as new!!

GOOD JOB zEROS!!!

No! The film is in Technicolor. The red cheeks are because of make-up.

Latest release by Shemaroo.
Just bought it.
Seems Pseudo-Progressive because the running time at the back says 161 mins. And imdb states the same.

Updates on the Shemaroo version :
- Excellent sound for a 1952 film
- Video sourced from a VHS tape (at the back it says the copyright expiry msg. the same as what they said for Dard, etc.)
- Progressive DVD, no combing seen
- Ugly Shemaroo watermark
- Pixilation seen
