According to Play247, the release date for Lagaan R2 is now 27/5 and they have put the price up to £17.99.

Arhhhhhh  I knew I should have ordered this before. I'll try and find out if anything is going to change for the R2 release - but it could be that Lagaan has sold well in USA that there could be considering a dual disc release here - well hoping anyway!

I am not sure what more extras the Lagaan R2 dvd will offer except for maybe the music release- I am not sure if there is a making of or "spirit of lagaan" that actually exists since Aamir was pretty strict about leaking out the script esp the cricket parts. The only reason I will get it is because it will be a PAL dvd.

All I would like is each half of the film to be presented on two discs with a Dolby 5.1 and possibly DTS. The film could do with some clean up, and some extra work on the dark details (which was awful). Extra's aren't nessarcary as the film says it all for me. I take back all when I complained about the disc being poor on features. I realised that the film needs no supplements if it would tarnish its magic of viewing. Laggan is such a film.

If indeed a second edition of the Lagaan DVD releases, it would be wonderful if it included an optional french dubbed language (like YRFs Dil To Pagal Hai DVD). Lagaan is getting a mainstream release in France on April 10, 2002. And the last Indian film to get a France mainstream release was Yash Chopra's Dil To Pagal Hai.

Well, according to Yashraj Films, it states "Dil To Pagal Hai received an overwhelming response overseas. This led to the film being dubbed in French for French audience worldwide". Through this, i had assumed that it had released in France. But your right, even according to IMDB, it only released in India and Israel. :wot:

But the fact that since LAGAAN is the 1st Hindi film(since I can remember) to get a mainstream France release, it gives more reason to have a second edition LAGAAN DVD to contain an optional french dubbed language as a special supplement.

I would get a bit mad if the R2 is better than R1. It's not fair that way. IF they make a better dvd, make it for ALL regions.

As well, when any company releases a dvd, then turns around and makes a "special edition" later, they should really allow for trade-ins (the first dvd + shipping + $2 or $3).

This mostly happens the other way round. R2 releases are usually inferior to their R1 counterparts. We especially get shafted by Warner Bros discs. Few R2 disc turn out better than R1 counterparts they tend to be mostly foreign films especially titles from Colombia Tristar - most rent was Crimson Rivers releases a single R1 disc and R2 was dual disc.
