Reena Roy was versatile enough to carry off both indian style dances (ie, Asha Jyoti) as well as cabaret numbers (ie, Andhaa Kanoon). There was a graceful qawali with Rishi Kapoor in Deedar-e-Yaar (1982): Eid Ka Din Hai, which she did to please Jeetendra for his home production.

It is unfortunate that there are practically no articles about this actress on the internet. Other actresses of her time with fewer classics like Neetu Singh and Parveen Babi get more of a mention. Perhaps, its Neetu Singh's connection with the Kapoor family, and Parveen Babi's multi-starrers with Amitabh Bachchan that gives them more respectability!

Hey what abt that Dance # from Naukar Biwi Ka... with Rishi Kapoor...

"Bol bol bol bo..bol bol kuch toh bol..
Kya naam hai tera...meena nahin nahin
...etc etc. "

Naukar Biwi Ka was a direct copy of a pakistani punjabi film called Naukar Woti Da. Reena Roy's role was modified to incorporate disco numbers like Kya Naam Hai Tera? with Rishi Kapoor, but the classical song O Mere Sajna at end when she dies performing her last dance was a direct copy from the pakistani film.

'Naukar Biwi Ka' comes no where close to 'Nakar Woti Da' in comedy, specially for those who understand Punjabi.

The best line, that I liked was the film ending line when the hero brings his bride home to his mother and in response to his mother's querry says (something like this):

"Oye, ae koi aata mangan waali te nein, meri woti ae".

Rana

P.S.
Thanks Armaan for the Saathi mere song querry. This discrepency bugged me a lot in the early eighties as I couldn't figure out, what was the actual song, the video one or the audio one, with my fav verse missing in the video. The song looked incomplete and annoyingly short, in both audio as well as video.

Can you recommend some decent films (not too bothered about the DVD quality). There have been so many mentioned here that I don't really know which ones to check out.....

It is difficult to recommend one or two films of an actress that has done nearly 100 movies, but the choice is made simpler by the fact that only 30 of them are currently available on dvd.

Here is my opinion on the prints, released by Eros. It is based on my humble expectations, and technically inclined members of the forum that enjoy criticising even DEI dvds, need not take any notice!

Good Transfers
Zakhmee (1975)
Nagin (1976)
Sau Din Saas Ke (1980)
Jail Yatra (1981)
Badle Ki Aag (1982)
Bezubaan (1982)
Naukar Biwi Ka (1983)

Average Transfers
Jaise Ko Taisa (1973)
Apnapan (1977)
Aasha (1980)
Pyaasa Sawan (1981)

Disappointing Transfers
Jwalamukhi (1980)
Rocky (1981)
Deedar-e-Yaar (1982) Guest Role

Kalicharan (1976) released by WEG is also a good clean sharp transfer

Arsh, Zakhmee is in the same league as Jail Yatra but with a better sound. The picture quality of Apnapan is nearly as good as Jail Yatra but the sound is awful.

Bhaskar, for a novice, Amitabh Bachchan's multi-starrer Naseeb (1981) is a good introduction to Reena Roy, and its a good job you don't care about the print of this Baba released dvd! :)

Cheers for the info. I already have Naseeb - I have quite a lot of older movies, but not many with Reena Roy, so was just wondering which movies have decent storylines. The main reason I asked is that I've heard of movies like Zakhmee and BEzubaan, but have no idea of the storyline.

Bezubaan focuses on the dilemmas of a woman whose past threatens to wreck her marriage. Reena Roy becomes a victim of blackmail from a cunning photographer (Naseerudin Shah) who threatens to expose her long forgotten pre-marital sexual encounter to her husband (Shashi Kapoor). Dealing with the taboo of extra-marital sex, Bezubaan is remembered for its powerful storyline, and its strong character support, especially from the talented Naseerudin Shah.

There is nothing unusual about Zakhmee, as its plot revolves around the common theme of revenge and justice. Sunil Dutt is 'framed' for murder, and his brothers kidnap a lawyer's daughter, Reena Roy, to assist his release from jail. Plenty of comedy and songs as the vivacious Reena Roy has the time of her life being kidnapped by two foolish boys: Rakesh Roshan and Tariq. Inevitably, Sunil Dutt escapes from jail to punish the criminal gang responsible for his imprisionment.

A pathetic film, at best ( call that a C-grade film, with A-grade actors)... Cant describe abt the film.. havent yet seen it.. but it has PRAN in a double role ( as a professor and as a hippie student.. ), along with Kiran Kumar, Paintal, Prayaag Raaj etc.
with Sonia Sahani ( as Pran the old man's love interest), Reena Roy and guess what BALRAJ SAHANI also :D

A cheapo murder mystrey is all I can say .. but it does have a beautiful song by Kishore Kumar..
"Tum kitni khoobsurat ho , yeh mere dil se poocho"

If u wana see a lot of dances, light story, with kamla Hasan, good music..Sanam Teri Kasam.

Asha, Arpan, will be done by BEI..

Dhanwan? depending upon the director? It casted Rakesh Roshan..and had famous song..Yeh aankhen dekh kar hum sari duniya bhool jaate haen.

Zakhmee, Kalicharan etc, Ghaii films, will be more commercial plots.

She was in Andha Kanoon too, along with Hema Malini..
