The Mumabi police has noticed that producers of Hindi films get a prudish version of their product certified by the Censor Board and once the films are released in cinemas, most of them have vulgar scenes not shown to the board.

The social service branch of the Mumabi police wrote a letter to the censor board urging it to be strict with Hindi and English movies. The police arrested 11 people from the city recently for selling and showing uncensored movies.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (social service branch) J G Sodi said, "Many films, like 'Night And Day' and 'Jennifer', received a universal viewing certificate from the Censor Board. However, we received complaints that the movies had nude scenes." He said that producers edit objectionable scenes for the Censor Board but put them right back after they get the desired certificate. He added, "I have asked the Censor Board, in my letter, to be more vigilant before issuing a U certificate to films."

However, Govind Menon, director of movie 'Khwahish', which has 17 kissing scenes, explained, "We are living in an urban Indian society and our audience should think broadly about films. Raj Kapoor portrayed semi-nude women in his movies. Look at 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram'. There was an initial uproar but when people came to know the essence of the movie, their anger settled down. The Censor Board without any cuts released my film 'Khwahish'. I have nothing to worry about the police's letter." The police raided several music shops and seized several VCD.

when will those idiots get out of the old fashion stream. like i bet you that you dont see people in india kissing on the streets. And whats up with those short skirts/tops the actresses wear isn't that showing more than that zinat aman movie sss and they cant even dance in those clothes. isn't that worse than kissing sence even whores don't wear those kinda clothes. its better off if they are nude since they are almost showing it anyway.

You can't and probably should not impose your ideals on a large community which chooses to its own social norms. Kissing is not common in public and I don't see why it should be common on the screen. Was this the biggest issue that Indian films needed to come to terms with? I think there are bigger more important and relevant things films could 'grow up' about. Growing up and maturing isn't all about sex.

In any case, the complains are fair enough. The nude scenes were contained in a U certified movie. That is unethical from any direction I look at. It only demonstrates futher the film industry's backwardness and corruption rather than its holier-than-thou intent of aiding modernisation.

They need more than just U and A ratings in India. I don't even consider the MPAA rating system to be adequate. Films don't just fit into the categories of "appropriate for all" and "only appropriate for adults."
