Guys!
Please stop posting screen shots that are rescaled and not
direct pixel dumps from the DVD! It makes quality evaluation
concerning aliasing impossible. I'm sure your software players
have options to leave the picture in original resolution. That
includes anamorphic squeeze leaving squeezed and not
unsqueeze it.
Does the DVD have jerky motion from PAL -> NTSC conversion?

Screen shots were never meant to be used for quality evaluation; they have always been here for indication to show some sort of comparative quality of the video on the DVD. Comparative, that is to other DVDs that have been captured using the same software and standard. Unfortunately that standard is not clearly explained in the guide I put up. Problem of the above screen shots showing pixelation is probably half the problem of JPEG compression and half the problem of the original DVD - this is a YRF DVD after all. You can't realistically expect pixel-to-pixel evaluation from screen shots even if they are captured unsqueezed (that is 720x480). For web practicality they're always compressed using JPEG - I normally use 10% compression using Paint Shop Pro (other program differ they way they represent JPEG compression). If more than 10% compression us used then pixelation starts becoming a problem from these JPEGs, which are not on the original DVD. To use non-lossy compression like BMP - the screen shots end up as 1MB each - which shows the true level of quality of the DVD but become impractical for web distribution.

The other thing about unsqueezed screen shots is that the majority of the people (if not all) don't actually watch movies unsqueezed. Anamorphic DVDs when watched on any screen involves some sort of rescale/resize to fit the screen, so it's only appropriate the screen shots show this rescale (yeh I know the level/quality differ vastly). I know mhafner has mentioned problems with PowerDVD is the past - but I still say that if all screen shots are captured the same way (at least when I do myself) - then there is a purpose to these shots in that a comparative opinion can be made. After all that's why (most) people post here to get an indication of quality of the DVD.

On a general note I think the sort of deep analysis some people are trying to achieve with what are near pathetic DVDs is unwarranted especially from just looking at screen shots. Detailed problems with DVDs can only be noticed when the DVD is viewed by oneself - on the right equipment.

Yes, Ali, sure, but unfortunately these screenshots are
the ONLY objective indicator of DVD quality I get from this
site while everything else is filtered by many variables
(equipment used, viewer tastes and experience...). Unless
I buy the DVD I won't know for sure. The screenshots are
just an indicator too, but this one I really would like to
see as neutral as possible. In my experience frames from
the DVD with no processing beyond MPEG decompression and
field combination plus a jpeg to reduce size to ~10-25%
have very little artifacts that are not in the uncompressed
version.
I have never seen screenshots this blocky before from Yash
Raj or Ayngaran DVDs. Either they are not representative
of the DVD or both companies have developed a new problem
with their mastering.
What is it? Could somebody show us a direct dump from
Saathya or Run for comparison, please?

WELL!! Mike!! all points valid!

Screen caps of MDK/MYKSH were terrible too, here!! and later on our special interests, u reviewed them to be BAD TRANSFERS!

Another recent let down is THIRUDA THIRUDA screen shots by AYANGRAN!! PQ looks Terrible!!

YRF dvds quality has gone DOWN THE DRAIN, the WORST POSSIBLE!

If I get dvd today, I can send saathiya! possibly!

Yep agree I've never seen DVDs this blocky too - I would guess this DVD is probably the same type of transfer as MDK - the heavy pixelation is probably from the high JPEG compression - maybe MalFUnXiON can clarify.

I should be getting this DVD next week or so will post more screen shots then.

Those screenshots are 960 by 540. Does that mean that they were enlarged or can screenshots from a 16:9 enhanced DVD be taken at that resolution without enlargement?

Yes, the DVD on my TV looks very similar to the MDK screenshots posted here (never saw MDK so I can't really compare). I did also watch MYKSH on the same setup, and Saathiya is certainly better than that.

As for the pixellation, it was there in bmp format too. But I think there is some problem with my PowerDVD since it's been acting up lately. The first shot is from the cut song which has a lower bitrate, so that's the only one I can explain. Hopefully Arsh can get some shots today.

The sound is the typical YRF decent DD5.1 mix.

I just saw teh dvd... it is that bad. even while viewing the pixelation is visible. WHat the heck is wrong with YRF? KKKG was at least a decent effort... this film deserved better.

Wow, I am so glad they deleted the initial "Chori Pe Chori" number from the film. The choreography is simply awful, lip synching is really off, and the girl pales in comparison to Shamita Shetty. I'm confident in saying this is one extra I will never watch again.

At least there is a green signal that I can get the VHS of the film, which I have just been yearning for, because I've been looking foward to this film since August!

The screenshots I hope are just opposite of wot the film really is like! The MYKSH DVD was really horrible by lacking colour and really dark at places, and too many glitches. Chandni has too many glitches as well.

In South Florida, they don't have actual VHS's.

Wot I do is go to my local Indo-Guyanese stores, and wot they have are DVD's on sale, that they copy onto the VHS tape, and sell it.
