Dillagi was directed by Basu Chaterjee and is not a Hrishikesh Mukherjee film.
In my opinion Kisise Na Kehna, Bemisal, Jurmana were only average films and Alaap quite honestly I think was a poor film. Anyhow I don't think that these films belong with the other great films of Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Baawarchi is the only title that comes to mind that is missing from that list, which definately belongs in it.

I believe that was Basu Chatterjee as well - some of the old Rajshri films were so much better than the stuff they prodcue today (I say some because I haven't seen many). Films like Chitchor, Dulhan Wohi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye, Balika Badhu - they're crying for a good DVD release....

Basu's Chhoti Si Baat is also a really good film.

As for Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Gulzar being in the Bimal Roy school of filmmaking, those two didn't quite master the visual beauty of Bimal Roy's films. But that is excusable if the content of the films is intelligent and engrossing enough, which it certainly was.

True...but that is perhaps attributed to the fact that their individual strengths were in different areas.....Mukherjee was an editor first and most certainly his movies are all tautly put together....Gulzar ofcourse was a writer, which is in evidence all over his movies....lyrics, dialogue, story....and Bimal-da was needless to say a cinematographer, which explains the visual beauty of his compositions.....but they were all incredible story tellers which is what the medium of cinema ultimately remains.....a story telling medium through use of various components which all aid but can never take the place of story telling...period.

Once thought lost, the dvd of BECKET has finally be released in R1 and R2. Becket is the movie that inspired NAMAK HARAM. It is arguably Peter O Toole's finest performance (He plays Amitabh's role). Richard Burton as Becket provides excellent company (He plays Rajesh Khanna's role.)

A MUST HAVE!

R1
