I have a Pioneer 636 and I have also had problems with Videosound discs and one DEI disc. They froze and pixelated heavily rather like a bad digital satellite broadcast. Replacement discs sorted out the problem.

I also think Videosound are using cheap shoddy materials.

That is absolutely not true. In the case of single layered discs, gold or silver media do not amke that much of a difference but most certainly in the case of double layered discs gold media is what is recommended by the DVD Forum and performs far better than silver media.
By the way there are some expensive collectors editions of regular audio CDs also released on gold media for the reasons of better quality and longevity. Gold is a better reflector than silver and also gold does not corrode as easily as silver.

As for the media used by Video Sound for their DVDs is concerned, the less said the better. Video Sound DVDs are absolute crap and almost every single DVD of Video Sound that I have bought(quite a few) over the past 2 yrs has stopped working after a little while. The same can be said of most Tips DVDs also. As far as Spark's Dil Chahta Hai DVD is concerned, I am on my 5th copy with the first 4 having all stopped working.

My suggestion is DO NOT BUY ANY 'Video Sound DVDs' period. As for Tips, I would be wary of them too. Spark on the other hand should be okay because it is only Dil Chahta Hai that I have had this problem with.

I will concur with that... To all folks who wonder why this is so.. pls go and refer to your High school chemistry text books...

Gold is a noble metal and does not Oxidize easily (unless subjected to extreme environmental conditions)

Ag (silver) on the other hand easily oxidizes (atomic structure etc can be found from ur chemistry textbooks) to Ag2O (silver oxide) ... the so called DVD-ROT ( or atleast contributing towards it)

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only with this problem. I have vowed to never buy another Soven disc again!! I even went to buy another dupe of it, but that was from the pirated disc. Finally got a decent one. I swear, it felt like a marathon session to get a good working copy of this dvd. There's a 2 in 1 with Lagaan as well...I saw what it looked like...the DCH didn't seem terribly bad, but I can sure bet that Lagaan wouldn't look that great.

Oh wow. The same thing happened to me on my Panasonic RV-31 Thanksgiving day. I thought it might have been player but everything I've slipped in since has played fine. I was under the impression that Spark was one of the more reputable Indian DVD brands. Guess not.

I got the Spark DVD last Wednesday and watched it over the weekend without any problems.

Come today, played it for the wife and it started breaking up in the middle of the film, I managed to get past it by fast forwarding. Tried it afterwards and it continuously skipps and freezes now :ffs: :ffs: :ffs: :bangbang: :bangbang:

Sure it works.
For exact code transfer, the cost of Hard Drive disk space alloted to this copy is more than the cost of the DVD . It takes about 10 GB for a normal DVD.

Copying on to a CD with further compression is another option. But you don't get the orig code.
