Sounds like you've put in some effort in this DVD, I look forward to it. This 'short movie' feature is something that has been suggested for ages now regarding Indian movies in general and one that will work really well on DVD - so many thanks for bringing this feature! Many other Indian films could greatly benefit from this feature and open up Indian film to greater audience. Hope this is not the only DVD you are going to do, if the quality is top, then people will expect more :thumbs:

hmm.. thought it was coming out on 11th... then it became the 12th.... now it's the 19th... i guess they still working on it :cool:

Well if the product quality turns out in proportion of the effort put in there's no doubt you will find a zillion takers.

here is hoping a great deal from this dvd quality?
you sound like a quality conscious person
so have you done a High Definition transfer??
well as you can see my expectation are very high (b/c of what you have said in your post), hopefully your dvd is going to at least match the best from DEI, if not surpass it
Hoping you have done what we zulmi's have been waiting for
if quality is all that, then i will be buying my indian film dvd's made by you

Hey Kshitij way to go man.... Dont worry ur market will be there as there are ppl who dont go for CHEAP GIMMICKS (now we all know what quality is all abt and what a GENUINE PIRATE is...)

However like dvd_Pankhaa I have a question here...
How is the DVD encoded ?.... Progressively or Interlaced ?
You can check out the forums here for what we define as progressive and what we define as interlaced. Trust me..if you DVD is progressively encoded... this might very well become a TOP SELLER (and by a strange irony the PIRATE sites out there will also start incorporating them in their 2-1 dvds :D) ...
Would like to know this info asap...

What is the movie like? I don't think I have seen any of the films Gulzar directed.

Best comedy film you will have ever come across. Gulzar directed films not neccessarily comedy, but have directed plain/serious theme with brilliant direction and screenplay and best lyrics songs (as a friend said, normal folks dont even get gulzar's lyrics.. ).

That was interesting. I didn't know Gulzar wrote ghazals. Do the films he direct usually have good music? Aandhi has some wonderful songs, and of course, he's written lyrics for some excellent soundtracks.

Gulzar's films are almost always worth watching, and have some great music, especially the ones with music by R.D Burman. These are my recommendations:

Parichay - Jeetendra, Jaya Bhaduri - Music: R.D Burman
Koshish - Sanjeev Kumar, Jaya Bhaduri
Mausam - Sanjeev Kumar, Sharmila Tagore
Maachis - Chandrachur Singh, Tabu

and also catch Masoom, starring Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi, which was written by Gulzar and directed by Shekhar Kapur.

Gulzar is a poet first and everything else follows later. If you want to hear some really delicious dialogue then it would be in his movies. Who can forget classics such as IJAAZAT, NAMKEEN, KHUSBOO, MAUSAM (in addition to those mentioned by Bhaskar)?

He has also penned lyrics/dialogues for innumerable movies, recently even for a gangsta' film like SATYA and a paranormal movie such as AKS. Can lyrics appear more sinful than when Raveena croons 'Aaja gufaaon mein aa, aaja gunaah karle' or when the antagonist of SATYA's mind (its a bacground song) sings 'Badalon se kaat kaatke, raat bhar naam jodna'. How about the deserted lover singing 'Mera kuch samaan, tumhaare paas pada hai' and beseeching the ex to 'geela mann shaayad bistar ke paas pada hai, woh bhijwa do, mera woh samaan lauta do' !

Gulzar is an experience per me.

I'll check some of those Gulzar films out. Thanks for the recommendations. Did he direct Dastak also? I have a CD with the songs from Aandhi, Mausam, and Dastak, and the first two are Gulzar films.

'Dastak' is by Rajinder Singh Bedi.....I think the CD combo is because of the music by Madan Mohan for two of the films (DASTAK & MAUSAM) and Gulzar lyrics for another two(MAUSAM & AANDHI)....Music companies play these weird numbers games, where they want to fit the max number of songs with similar music directors or directors or some such....

Angoor GVI release was incomplete.. hope this release is not compromised by any cuts...

by the way, Aarkayne.. have you seen Namkeen (Weg)? They have chopped off the last hour of the movie.. i just can't think of the choppingness... :angry:

Nope I have not seen the DVD. I do have a VHS tape of the movie....though and I remember seeing it on Doordarshan long ago as well....great flick....superb acting...fabulous casting...Gulzar was at his creative best during those years....a period that perhaps ended with the making of LIBAAS....alas this is one movie I regret having missed seeing though it was playing at a film fest in Bangalore...i was lazy enough to think I would catch it after it released and here we are.....it has yet to see the light of day...one of my perennial regrets...
