Hello

Can anyone please tell me what could cause a DVD of a colour film that plays correctly one DVD player, to play as a black & white on another DVD player?

Thanks

Thanks. So I take it that for a region 2 DVd player to play an Ntsc DVD, all that is required is a good scart lead. Is this correct?

DVD players in the UK have certain options to change the signal type to display on UK TVs. The DVD player that does play the DVD in colour has got correct settings - it's most probably converting the NTSC signal (most Indian DVDs are NTSC) to PAL for playback.

Your second DVD player is trying to playback in NTSC, which your TV can't handle so comes up as black and white. Check the option on your second DVD player that plays in b/w and change the video type so it converts the signal to PAL or PAL60 - that's assuming there's an option to do this on your second DVD player - not all players have this option. If you have problems post details on the DVD player and type of TV your using.

New2DVD... Do you have an APEX dvd player ?.. If so then all you would have to do is change the mode of playback.. i.e press the P/N button and you would get an output in PAL (aka a R2 DVD)... However one major problem that will arise is the fact that you cannot have proper anamorphic video display from your DVD player.... the dvd output will be squashed..(i.e instead of displaying 850 x 480 it will display 720x 480).. Color should be same.... However I am not sure as to whu u get a Black and white output ...maybe it depends on the dvd player being used

His, dvd player can do PAL PLAYBACK, or NTSC play back, but CAN NOT CONVERT, PAL/NTSC or vice versa for his DISPLAY..result..BLACK AND WHITE picture!!

BTW!! apex does do, playback and conversion, along with MALATA players..cheers!
