why would u wanna see that crap? i saw that on zee tv.....looks worse than bad hindi movies. the cast is all ugly people with no acting skills, the name of the movie is the same as some hindi movie, everything is copied from bollywood (doesn't mean bollywood is the greatest cause they copy everything from hollywood) but at least they do it with some style! nothing personal against pakistani's or anything...just what i think about "lollywood" or whatever it's called.... :D :p

When the Pakistani stores in Toronto don't even rent Pakistani movies, you know there's trouble. Sultan Rahi movies must be some of the campiest I've seen. Check out Maula Jatt or Visa Dubai Daa if you get a chance. I'm sure some of the oldies were quite good. The current state of Pakistani cinema is pretty poor...thanks to rampant piracy and the popularity of Indian flicks.

I believe that if small regional Indian films in Tamil and Telugu can do better business then Hindi cinema in India, then I'm sure Pakistani films can achieve so much more due to the massive audience potiential.

They should use better actors (doesn't really matter about how they look) and tell stories that are beyond the conventions of "Bollywood." Look to Iraian or Eyptian cinema which is more artistic in terms of using low production values and narrative. Even Greek and Turkish cinema is on the rise based on cinema film-making in the middle east.

Hmmmm. I 'tried' to sit through one or two of them on Zee TV, but to say they were bad is an understatement. It looks as if they all star either that babar ali or nadeem. I think most Paksitanis don't even like to see them.
The people who watch them either do it cos they're used to it, or just to show support to the pak film industry.

You can also find alot of Pakistani Film Reviews by clicking Here.
Secondly, I'd like to say that I have nothing against Muslim or Pakistani people, infact one of my closest friend is from Pakistan(and I'm Hindu). But to get to the point, I've also seen a few Pakistani films myself, and like Mr. Khiladi says, to say that there bad would be an understatement.

DVD collector you are slightly off target here in your analogy. Comparing the quality of Pakistani Movies with your likes for Muslims or Pakistanis (Liking/hating their movies and liking/hating them are two mutually exclusive events though some ppl dont like to make that distinction) ...
I agree with you ... I too had the (mis)fortune of watching a film which was shown on PTV a couple of years back (It was on Cable TV in India)... I dunno what the film name was or who the actors but it looked like an old film (B&W) film.... Man i had to sit and watch that movie as all the other channels were not functioning or the picture was hazy !! It was a torture and reminded me of some B or C grade Indian Movies....
The point here is as follows ( I made this point sometime back also)... Many Pakistani movies are relased but how many ppl outside Pakistan actually see them or know abt them ? Sunny Audit rightly explained that in aping Bollywood they have ruined their own market. Come on guys Bollywood has a unique charm of itself (which is why even PTV had to show Hindi Film clippings in some program, not so long ago :D) ... It does have it shortcomings but the grandeour and reach of Bollywood films can always outnumber any film made across the border.
Some member here suggested that it is out of "sheer patriotism" that a few ppl still like to view Pakistani films... but thats abt it :) Go to any home in Pakistan and you will find ppl renting Indian movies and that speaks of the appeal Indian movies have.
Even when they try to ape something global (like GANDHI..) they end up producing JINNAH with a "Vampire" (no Offence to Christopher Lee though.. he is a top notch actor though in all respects) playing the lead role and the movie never quite made it ... even with their own couuntrymen (and ironically it was partially funded by Shashi Kapoor an Indian !!! )

So why bother with the rest (Lolly) when you can have the best . (Bolly)

*ps :- Just an observation to Sunny Audit's comment. Bengali movies had their own glory days when Uttam Kumar & Suchitra Sen ruled the silver screen. However on his death, Bengali movies started aping Bollywood and damm those movies were despicable... However recently a new breed of movies have started coming up...
Unishe April
Titli etc... These are good and i mean really good films and they are totally different from the Masala films churned out by Bollywood. So you see Bengali Cinema have started making the change as suggested by Sunny Audit and they have prospered ...

Check this out !
Another Muslim nation and its films (which is different from other muslim nations)
