Disco Cinematography Dil Chaahta Hai, Disco Dancer
As I mentioned in the Faroudga thread, I am sorting out my Indian DVDs to identify pseudo-progressive DVDs. I had some difficulty with Dil Chaahta Hai.
Initially, I couldn’t detect any sequence for the repeated frames. The scene I was concentrating on was the “Kehta Rahe ---Junglee†Disco song. Then I checked another sequence and found every 5th frame was a repeated frame as expected. I checked the first sequence again and found that:
Every 5th frame was a repeated frame along with many other random repeated frames. It seems that Cinematographers insert repeat frames in the film to give a strobe effect for disco sequences.
Can someone confirm if this is occasionally done?? I remember from 20 yrs ago that I had seen this effect in DISCO DANCER VHS copy. This strobe effect was much stronger. In those days, I thought it to be a Cine-Tel flaw. Now I think may be it’s a routine special effect that Cinematographers use for disco sequences??
