Most show better transfers than those already available from Yash Raj Films – although the sometime flaky compression and noise reduction is evident on these transfers too () and some of the title like RTGM are not in their proper aspect ratio.

Still some Raj Kapoor titles will be popular alternative to the YRF one, if some retailers can get and sell these DVDs – hint hint ;)

Hi Ali,

Can we have some screenshots from Mughal-E-Azam. Is this film in widescreen? Where can I purchase the Shemaroo version in UK? :rolleyes:

I'll do a fuller preview later on today. As to where you can get it from - only retailer I know of is Indiaweekly where I got it from - their service to the UK has been really good so far.

Ali, Mugal-E-Azam was not a widescreen movie. After viewing some shots from some of Shemaroo's DVD, once again I'm somewhat hopeful that quality will improve,will have to wait and see. Also, most of the Shemaroo DVD's are produced in India. I have Mugal-E-Azam and this version is the best I have seen so far.

Shipping charges for IW to UK are here;

http://www.panindia.com/store/shipping.asp

...it's $5.99 per order + $2 extra per DVD. It's only really economical if you order 4-5 DVDs at a time.

Sangam looks great! This will be a must buy for me! The YRF version had a scene missing and the last 45 minutes were out of synch.

Does anyone know who releases newer movies in India (e.g. Dil Chahta Hai, Nayak etc.) - I wonder of there are better quality than the DVDs we get over here?

Mughal-E-Azam DVD preview

..just a pity Shemaroo didn’t spend some time restoring this classic. Most distracting thing about the DVD is constant shaking :( but still it’s the best version of the film available on DVD - and the most complete. Compared with he Global version this version is much, much better.

Shemaroo DVD do show promise - hopefully more will appear from them and hopefully readily available for us guys to buy too and not just in India.

...BTW just a note: the screen shots make the DVD look much better than it is in reality - because they are re-sized and compressed in jpeg format, the wear/tear and shaking is not evident from the shots.

As long as they apply their awful noise reduction their DVDs
are not worth buying. It ruins quality. No Indian label gets
the noise reduction right, not a single one. Very depressing.

I was wondering Ali you have put a pic of Shool, is it also available from Shemaroo. I would love to purchase that film since the ones available are pathetic.
