Hi

I am planning to purchase a number of dvds from this shop and needed GENUNINE feedback as to quality and so on.

The prices are tempting around $12 for each.....

The main thing I am interested in is the quality of the dvds and when someone on this board said something about banning this shop because all the dvds are pirate....it puzzled me because well, based on reading other postings (eg in this case would be the pirated devdas dvd by eros allegedly)....everybody seems to be pirating , so why pinpoint this shop out....

all kinds of feedback on this would be appreciated.......

People are defining piracy to mean what ever they want. People in charge are not doing much it and there seems to be very hypocritical views what stores to support and those to ‘black list’. At the end of day, define your own piracy terms, be comfortable with where you shop and buy the films you want.

As regards to quality from this store – check out a few other threads under Retail/online shopping section and make you own mind up.

i orderd from them their buy 3 get 1 free offer which worked out around £8 per dvd the films i got were AKS COMPANY LAJJA & ANJAAM

all the prints were very good LAJJA & COMPANY were in anamorphic while AKS & ANJAAM were 2.35

i had a problem with COMPANY dvd it started to block out after chapter 10 i emailed them they told me to sent it back and a replacement copy would be sent and it duly arrived and worked well !!!

all in all i found them to be very good and cheap kept in regular contact during the process of order!!!

highly recommend and alot cheaper than most of bollywood dvd online retailers !!!

go for it u won't regret it!!!

Hi bermuda, the whole question boils down to what is pirated/replicated and genuine DVDs...
I think i remember Asif as the only proponent of this site (its a pity the old thread has been deleted by Ali else you would understood what I meant)..
If you sole intention is to get these DVds for as cheap a price then why dont u get a DVD burner and replicate the discs in the comfort of your own home. Why should you pay the crooks @ cdstore.com.pk ( yeah CAPTAINAMERICA will back me up here ) any cent for doing the dirty job ?
U should replicate EROS, Videosound and Yashraj DVDs and not buy them from stores like cdstore.com.pk...
However as I have always stressed in previous posts... try and avoid the replicated DEI discs (unless they are not available like the DEI-EROS dvds)... they are one of the few good companies left in the market ( or should i say were left in the market ) who actually gave you quality DVDs at reasonable prices.
& BTW cdstore.com.pk is no way based in Pak but it is based in USA ( and may very well be under the spotlight due to wholesale piracy... check out their ENGLISH catalogue each and every DVD is a replicated DVD..which is not good business when you are in the USA...)
& Yaar pls avoid VCD's its a pain for your eyes :D

I couldn't even begin to tell who sells "official" discs and who sells "replicated versions". I would assume India Plaza only sells official versions judging by their high prices, but I have never ordered from them. I finally found an Indian video store here in town and much of it looked replicated or pirated to me. Their copies of Lagaan and Mission Kashmir had different jacket art than the Columbia versions I own. Plus, many of the DVDs they had for sale looked like the jackets were made on a laser copier.

I guess in the end, as long as I get the best quality version, I can't really worry about it. The discs I've received from Indiaweekly sure do look official to me, but I have no way of knowing.

Jeff

Jeff I will also vouchsafe for that.. In Toronto I have seen desi DVD store wallahs openly selling pirated copies of Lagaan & Mission Kashmir ( now that they are CTHV products doesnt play a role here..they may land in trouble as CTHV sure has the muscle power to clean these folks up rather then the genuine DVD retailers).
Now coming to another fact that you have raised and I am sure many oldies here in the forum will know, that this point was discussed immensly last year when the debate over Indiaplaza and Indiaweekly took place.
If by your hypothesis, Indiaweekly was selling goods at a cheaper price than Indiaplaza then maybe we should suspect their goods as not genuined, a tactic which Indiaplaza has used many a times to badmouth Indiaweekly here on zulm.
So if that was the case, we flip over to Hollywood DVD e-tailers. By the same gesture, HMV.com should be selling all genuine DVDs and DVDSOON.com should be selling all pirated goods as their prices are cheaper ...which we all know is not true... DVDsoon has some of the cheapest prices (on some dvds)... Thats cos they can compete with HMV as their speciality is just DVDs and nothing else...
BUt cdstore.com.pk is nothing short of a complete rip-off store. Hell If I had to replicate a hollywood DVD I would do that with my DVD burner and not pay cdstore.com.pk a $12 ( they dont even deserve a single penny).. I can do that for a few bucks only :gob:
Jeff you should follow the hierarchy when it comes to deciding what DVD you want :-
1.) Is the dvd extinct ? then you should go an buy a replicated Disc
2.) Is the DVD absolutely shit ( like TAAL.,.and yeah I still have not answered back as to how I found Taal to be one of EROS's most repugnant DVDs), then you should definately not even buy that DVD.. If you want the movie then simply rip it as a DIVx file and be happy :)
3.) However if I am getting a DVD say HDDCS (2 disc) for 9.99 USD, a genuine print from the company (DEI) straight, then why should i go and patronize a pirate company like cdstore.com.pk ? I follow the same rule for southindian dvds also.... purchase only the genuine DVDs...and if they are not available then go for the replciated versions of the extinct DVDs....

Well, i I must say something in favour of cdstore.com.pk, while I dont buy any pirates I tried these guys out and ordered four dvds off them. Two were original and two were copies- hkkn and MK. So I emailed the guy and he said to send them back to him and he would try to send the original ones to me. To be honest the guy ofered me a refund but I chose two free dvds!!! :) (and keep the pirates) with my next order. But I dont like the fact that they advertise every dvd on their site as being original. I have asked the guy and he says that they have the pirates untill the official version comes out. So if u order be sure to ask him if they are all original!!!!!

That's a valid argument and a bad assumption on my part. Part of the reason I would assume Indiaplaza sells only originals is that some of the studios put commercials for Indiaplaza on the DVDs. If Indiaplaza sold pirates, I don't think Eros or Videosound would allow the advertisements to be on their official releases. Actually, I'm surprised this practice is even allowed at all. I don't think Universal or Columbia could ever get away with an Amazon or DVD Empire ad on their discs. The other retailers would retaliate against any studio that did that. Anyway, I am not accusing Indiaweekly of selling pirates or I was just saying that I thought Indiaplaza certainly sold originals.

I'm not sure I understand the whole story on cdstore.com.pk. I tried looking through the old threads but they are gone. I've never dealt with them but what exactly makes them a rip-off?

I agree 100%!

Someday when you have time, let me know what it is about the remastered Taal disc that you found to be repugnant.

Hi Jeff,
I saw TAAL in the theatres and I know the amt of horizontal cropping they have done on the DVD copy !!... You can also see the compression artefacts being manifest on your TV screen for 2 reasons :-
It being being mastered from an Interlaced source (aka a non-progressive source.. using our self-created yardstick of 30 fps and not 24fps) and also There is no color contrast in the DVD ( vis-a-vis say a DEI DVD like Kaho Na Pyar Hai.. which I would say is definately on par with a hollywood dvd )

Well we have Michael Hafner (mhafner) here on the forum who will concur with me in this aspect. Check out his review of TAAL from the main page and you will see what I mean
http://www.zulm.net/modules....sid=126

As for cdstore.com.pk (for one you would assume that with a .pk domain the site will be based in Pakistan and indeed some esteemed members informed us that this site was based in Karachi which is a city in Pakistan).. but surprise surprise check out this thread :D
http://www.zulm.net/cgi-bin.....com.pk

& you will see what I mean. Of cos you wont understand some stuff written there ( at least the context, as I raised the alarm bells for this site and ppl accused me of being a racist ( for my not so secretive dislike for a "particular" group of ppl) .. but I was happy that I have been vindicated.

When you have the contenders (Indiaweekly) why bother abt the Pretenders (cdstore.com.pk) !

Well, excuse me for not already knowing but I tried to access the old threads but they are gone. I never said I even had intention of using cdstore.com.pk, I simply asked SkNath why he made the statement that they were a rip-off. Personally, I'm perfectly happy with Indiaweekly but I was curious as to what all the fuss was about.

I spent a little time on their site today and it's blatantly obvious to me now that they are pretty heavy into the pirate DVDs as I know there is no NTSC version available of Monsoon Wedding but yet they are selling it. They are also selling Devdas which isn't out yet either. If you click on their English movies site they have a VCD of Signs which just opened theatrically a couple of days ago...an obvious bootleg.
