Any Idea about the problematic dvd’s . I have so many dvd’s with disk problem, mostly from DEI and some from DEI/EROS and one from EVP.
Most notorious of all the disks is the Khuda Gawah (DEI/EROS). It does not play the second half of the movie. As I brought it from Indaincdstore.com long time ego (6 months) I can’t ask them for replacement. As I am buying lot of dvd’s recently it is taking a while to watch some dvd’s. Any suggestions gentlemen?

Depending on which DVD player you are using, you're bound to get problems with indian dvds. I have a second dvd player, KLH brand home theater, and it usually doesn't load up dvd's made by cheap pirate companies, some recent Eros dvd's and some dvds from Tips which dont play after certain chapters.
However, it handles all English dvds pretty well. Now the indian dvds (all of 'em) play well on the other dvd player.
So basically, it mostly depends on the type of dvd players you use and the dvds that you buy or get... its always good to have 2 different dvd players around the house.

I cant agree more with you ganti. All indian DVDs have so many problems that sometimes I think about boycotting them all together but I cant stand watching them on VHS. I don't know what to do either. I buy a lot of movies as well and sometimes dont get a chance to watch them right away and later when I watch them find that their a problems with them sometimes more on one player than the other.

No problems with english movies period. Even english movies that I sometimes buy second hand that have minor scratches on them play perfectly without a signal bit of pixellation or any dostortion at all.

Only solution really is to stop buying indian dvd movies all together.

I did have a problem with the Dil chahata hai disk on both my dvd players... it seemed to do a complete freeze towards the second half.. i had to select the chapter all over again many times to rectify this issue..... however i sent the dvd back to indiaweekly and they sent me another copy.. and this one works alright.... so i dont know maybe it was just one bad disk. I also had trouble with the zubeidaa disk which froze up right before the ending for me... agan an exchange of the disk and i am alright.... but there are many other people i know who have had problems with some of the dei disks and videosound disks.....

Some problematic discs for me:

Geraftaar
Ganga Jamuna Saraswathi
Justice Chaudary
Yalgaar
Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai
Yodha
Hero No.1
Hum To Mohabbat Karega
Kasam (NEW)
Ek Rishtaa
Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar
Imaandaar

Have not had any problems with my copy of Dil Chahta Hai (US Version) and neither Biwi No.1 (Got it when it 1st came out, maybe recent batch sucks).

I guess the indian dvd manufacturers dont do quality checks on their dvd's.

The Problematic disks I have:

Khuda Gawah, English Babu Desi mem, Desh Preme and Baazigar

All of these I brought from Indiancdstore.com and these are authorized by DEI and Satish willing to replace them for me.

I have some more unwatched dvd’s and also by DEI but I don’t know whether there are ok or not. Does any of you guys have problems with the top disks are the bottom ones?

Laawaris (old), Khalnayak, Bandhan, Deewar, Loafer, Rambalram and Duplicate.

I do get problems once in a while, but not that often (Sony 550 DVD player). Somehow, so far, I have been able to play them all by hook or crook with only a few seconds skip. What I do is to skip chapter/ chapters and see how far back you can speed-scan. Then play the DVD from there on. This way I miss only the short segment where the problem occurred.

Rana,
It is a good suggestion for the disks with one or two breaks but I have some disks with more than 2 breaks. Like Khuda Gawah entire second half does not play. And Mission Bollywood first disk has 3 breaks and I am too lazy to send it back for replacement even though Indiaweekly offered the help.
And I got one telugu movie Allari Alludu by EVP, it doesn’t play the last 40% of the movie.

And especially if the problem occurs during my favourite song ?

Another thing I noticed is that a Disc may not have a problem in the "first play"/ "when new" but they become problematic with time (months). I don't know if it is co-related to # of times we play a DVD. I think this is what they call DVD rot. Scratches and dust may be another reason. Occasionally, cleaning the discs help as well.

Yes Rana,
I have noticed that too. So I always clean every disk before I play. But all the disks mentioned above are problematic at first run. Do you use any special cleaning technique to clean dvd’s ?

I haven't had a need to clean any DVD that thoroghly so far. A friend of mine did clean a problamatic audio CD for me once. The only thing that I did so far, for cleaning a DVD, is a light wipe, radially outwords. Sometimes this works and at other times I manage to play by skip chapter & then reverse search.

I know that some DVD (and CD) players are more forgiving than others. Mine seems to be more tolerant.
