How good is the Moser baer version compared to Shemaroo which is not too good either.

I havent seen the shemaroo print, so i cant compare, but the Moserbaer version is not good. Picture lacks detail, hazy most of the time. The sounds comes and goes at three points in the movie.
I only got this to watch Anarkali for film knowledge. However, sometimes the movie is over the top. Bina Rai had a very beautiful face, she amazed in the last hour of the movie. Her confrontation scenes with Akbar were awesome, the dialogue delivery and facial expression was distinct. Not forgetting the wonderful music by C. Ramchandra. O Aasmaanwale, Yeh Zindagi Usiki Hai are my favourites. Also happy that the movie included the one song not composed by C. Ramchandra, Aa Jaane Wafa.
Its a shame that the DVD's released are so bad.
Mughal-E-Azam is still my preffered version for the Salim - Anarkali saga.

IMDB states 175 min runtime (168 min if 4% speed up)

Shemaroo version is 160 min

Paraag version is 156 min

Gurpreet Video VHS version is 162 min. (Gurpreet Video got the British Censor Clearance, as per their VHS starting credit)

All three are basically from a 1978 faded film print.

Of these Gurpreet Video orig PAL master seems to be the best bet to make further copies (PAL) as a copy made from their VHS release seems pretty sharp but suffers from other VHS copying degradation. I think, Gurpreet Video did release some DVDs under GVI brand. Did they bring out Anarkali DVD too ?? I wish they release Anarkali PAL DVD.

Even the longest of the three versions, has discontinuities. One that's easily noticeable is where Anarkali is questioned, "Why leave after the event, as someone enters overhearing some conversation ?" while the scene saying that she will leave after the event (can't say how long was that scene) got cut due to commercial/ logo break in the VHS.

How long is the Moserbaer-Ultra version ??
Comparing Shemaroo PQ and the Moserbaer screen shots Moserbaer is a much sharper.

mrbrat_Boy, what's the film length reported on Moserbaer CC ?? Shemaroo, Paraag, Gurpreet VHS all have faded print and film length is not readable.

I could not get the actual length of the reels as in the main screenshots above, but i checked the timer while the movie was on it shows 2h 29min 13sec so +-149 min, heavily cut print, if that is the case

I do see an Ultra DVD of the movie available:

One scene that I don't see in DVD:

In the beginning of the film (first 30-40 min), when Anarkali is kidnapped by slave traders and is being auctioned, the DVD scene cuts off at Salim winning the auction but I recall, in the film, instead of paying the bid price, he fights off the slave traders and escapes with Anarkali. In the DVD, there is a reference in the next scene where Salim says that he rescued her by fighting 10 goons. So, the fight scene must have been in the film.

I now own the Shemaroo version of Anarkali, which I am convinced is a repack of the Paraag version of Anarkali. Paraag version of Anarkali originally had a colored on-screen logo on the bottom right of the video. On the Shemaroo version, the Paraag logo is replaced with a Shemaroo logo that too is colored and opaque, and different from the translucent logo that we are used to seeing on Shemaroo DVDs and Blu-Rays.

This print is different from any other print of Anarkali that I have ever seen. All the songs have unscheduled cuts throughout their duration. The most mysterious of all, THE SONGS ARE SLOWED DOWN LOWER THAN FILM SPEED. I compared these uploads to the ones by Ultra Bollywood only to realise that the speed shift is of around 6.5% (with the Ultra uploads running faster, and the upload from the mysterious source running slower).

Here is an upload from the repaired version of Anarkali, that runs at 24 fps. Ideally, the 24 fps version should have had the same tempo as the slower, mysterious version of Anarkali. But that is not the case.

On comparing the three uploads, one would realize that upload #1 is 4% slower that #3 [24 fps vs 25 fps]. The speed difference between #2 and #3 is about 6.5% [not sure why that is because the slower video, at most should run 4% slower than the PAL sped up version].
The speed difference between #1 & #3 is about 2.5%. [ideally, these two uploads should not have any speed difference.]
I am really unsure as to what is doing on here!
