Shemaroo Blu Ray has been announced. Claim, it's uncut.
Let's hope:
1) It's OAR 4:3 and not cut from top & bottom to make it 16:9
2) At least the full 1974 232 min version in 24P format.
3) Even better if it's the original 1964 version (238 min or longer). Quite possible as MNJ Blu Ray did include some scenes that were never seen before.

(Recall, all Sangam DVDs, so far, were PAL to NTSC field averaged. Let's hope Blu Ray has original 24 film frames per sec)

Blu Ray Released.

Reports say it's 229 min.
If True, then:
It's cut 3 min from 1974 version of 232 min.
(Don't think, they would have obtained the 1964 orig print that was 238 min)

Most likely 24 frames film to 24P video, meaning no field averaging.

1974 CC = 231 min 22 sec

1) Shemaroo Blu Ray is 229 min 16 sec. 24P, No Speed Shift.

2) 4:3 Picture trimmed to 1.78:1. It's not the same trim everywhere. Frames are trimmed judiciously. Hence, scene trim is not noticeable and all important portion of the scene is centralized properly. (Obviously, Randhir Kapoor who is a competent director himself, must have overseen the project.

3) 1974 CC says 6347 meters. This comes to 231 min 22 sec.

4) As can be seen from the following, minisicule frames missing are neither significant in time nor in content. Exact Time Count for the discrepancy (231 min 22 sec vs 229 min 16 sec) as compared with Esquire VHS:

a) Titles +22 sec (out of 209 sec).
b) Childhood scene ends to Rajinder Kumar Europe scene begin +15 sec (out of 571 sec).
c) Rajinder K leaves Europe till Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega ends +9 sec (out of 1060 sec)
d) Raj Kapoor says Good Bye saying "He Will Come Back" till Award scene ends +25 sec (out of 1040 sec).
e) Ist Intermission Display +15 sec (out of 15 sec) (Should be at 107:19 count in BR)
f) Raj Kapoor arrives by Train, till Buddha song start +10 sec (out of 2400 sec)
g) Buddha song start till Rajinder Kumar arrives in Europe +10 sec (out of 235 sec)
h) Rajinder arrives till he Leaves +9 sec (out of 720 sec)
i) 2nd Intermission Display +15 sec (out of 15 sec) (Should be at 169:54 count in BR)
j) Dost song ends till O Mere Sanam start +13 sec (out of 1064 sec)
k) Vyjanthimala goes to Rajinder Kumar till end +15 sec (out of 836 sec)

Total = +158 sec (2 min 38 sec)

BR Time 229:16 + 2:38 = 231:54 (This is 32 sec more than CC time. Perhaps CC display time is not included in the film length)

--------------------------------------
BTW, 61 sec is in BR and were not in Esquire VHS. 55 sec of this during Picnic that has 'O Mehbooba' song.

Shemaroo's DVD of this new version is PROGRESSIVE. :D

So far all DVD versions of Sangam were PAL to NTSC converted and were field averaged.

Yes, the same Blu Ray master, but Blue Ray cuts off top and bottom of picture (ruining the viewing). The DVD is full screen 4:3. As the DVD is Progressive, one can use Player's or TV's up-scaling to 1080P and get a picture that's almost as good as BR that Shemaroo has given us. Plus, no part of picture is chopped off.

(Same goes for Mera Naam Joker as well)
(Shemaroo hasn't come out with new SSS DVD while they came out with Blu Ray)
