Possibly one of the best albums of the 1960s. Who could imagine any other song topping the likes of "Man Re Tu Kahe", "Sansar Se Bhage" and "Kahe Tarsaye"? I am spellbound!
My favorite song from the album is "Sakhi Re Mera Man Uljhe". Each and every lyric of the song literally runs a chill through my spine. The song is available on a Lata Mangeshkar album called "The Nightingale Of India - Padma Vibhushan Special Edition", which features this song in really good quality. The transfer on this song is arguably the best that has been done for a song of this age. Here is an essence :-
I wonder how it was possible to have extracted so much clarity and depth out of the songs! It is also saddening that none of the other songs of the movie have similar quality. The rest are available in very weak cassette-like quality on CD. Does anyone have a better vinyl version of the film which he/she would like to share?

Wow! What a find!
I have the re-release LP of Chitralekha (issued in 1982) and the quality is very lo-fi - better than the awful CD but not good enough to say that it is worth seeking out. There was an original release in 1964 on a 10" LP on the Angel label. I have never managed to find a good quality version (there is one out on eBay for $400 - and the condition of the LP is very bad).
On my first listen I was convinced that this was a revival version, but the clarity of Lata's voice tells me that this might be from the original master tape. It is a treat hearing Lata's voice in great quality when she was in her prime. Thanks for digging this up and sharing it ... I only wish that the rest of the soundtrack was available in such good quality.
