LOL!! I too have never understood what I have understood and what not ;)

I can just say that PAL DVDs are annoying for their pitch and speed difference. But for their resolution, they are better.
But NTSC DVDs mostly retain the pitch and speed. Hence, I prefer them. But resolution here is lesser.

Rana saheb can explain better!

You may expect a reply by him in a few hours.

There are comparative shots between the DEI & Carlotta versions in the topic earlier. You may go through them.

Ah, you mean like pitch in audio (the speed)

Yupp!!

The audio is squeaky in the Carlotta version...

Perhaps you've noticed this in Indian DVDs. The song from audio CDs sound okay, but some DVDs have this song squeakier (high pitch :) )

Do you have the EVP version of Aradhana?? Compare it with another DVD of the movie. You may find difference in the pitch...

Can someone confirm whether the Eros-B4U version is interlaced, field averaged or progressive?

Interlaced and field averaged. The original source for the Eros DVD is a 24fps telecine, which was incorrectly converted to 25fps video without proper framerate adjustment (so the video still runs at 24fps speed, but every 24th frame is repeated to make up 25 frames, giving a stuttering motion). This botched 25fps video was then incorrectly converted AGAIN, this time to 29.97fps using field averaging to blend these added frames together, causing blurred motion.

No speed shift at least.

Haha, thanks. I still visit sometimes, but stopped buying Hindi DVDs after converting to Blu-ray. Now that we see how good films can look in HD, it's hard to accept anything less - especially after seeing Criterion/Artificial Eye's beautiful restorations of the Satyajit Ray films.

Shots from the PEN DVD. Could they be the repackaged version of DEI?

The audio here is miserable! Too much hissing, very flaccid! I've not seen any other version of Sholay, so can't say if the audio is any different.

Is there any hope for the new 3 d version on DVD/Blu?? By now it should be out. Any ideas?

Is there any hope for the original version to be on Blu or DVD in good quality? I'm annoyed with all the shitty versions available. I also contacted criterion asking about a BD from them, unluckily no luck. :(

Excel is the only hope. Please make us happy.
I'm almost into tears.

Guys, cheer me up :(

Thanks Bhai! :D

I do hope we get a Blu Ray of "Sholay" in the near future :hmmm:

There is absolutely no news or hope for the 3D version on DVD or Blu Ray.

Let's see what happens....

Screenshots taken from the trailer of Sholay 3D. Taken by capturing screenshots from the YouTube video (@720p, Fullscreen mode) and then resized to standard anamorphic AR. (853 * 480)
Surprisingly, there's more picture on the sides in this version. :?
